MEO teams up with Couch Warriors for major event

Melbourne Esports Open had announced a team up with Couch Warriors. They intend to host the event in the Margaret Court Arena on September 1-2 with two major games.

League of Legends and Overwatch are the two games to be showcased. The major event will be the OPL Finals and the AU Contender Finals respectively. These are some of the most biggest games in esports for Australia and there are a lot of interest for the event with tickets already being sold late June.

Couch Warriors, don't usually deal with the above games, but instead focuses on a particular genre of highly competitive nature. This Non-profit organisation hosts a huge amount of tournaments that deals with fighting games. Some as highly popular like Tekken, Dragon Ball FighterZ and Street Fighter V to the more niche fighters like Skullgirls 2nd Encore and Gundam VS.

There devotion to these events from the humblest beginnings had garnered them a huge community from the various fighter games while also having been sponsored or partnered by huge names such as Red Bull, Playstation and Twitch.

While there isn't much to be known on what role the Couch Warriors will partake in the event, their presence will bring in the FGC (Fighting Game Community) to the event. There was mention of the FGC stage, so there could be a chance of Fighting Games making an appearance at the event.

With the organisation's huge prominence in Australia for the FGC, there is some speculation on what it might mean for the future of live esports in areas like the Margaret Court Arena.

It could be a new gateway for fighting games to join popular games like League of Legends and Overwatch as part of the major esports events like the one coming up on early September. This could be the very next step of integrating more interesting events for all kinds of gaming communities in Australia to be part of esports.
