holoz0r's A-Z of Steam: Company of Heroes Part 3

in #gaming5 years ago

I have a neglected view of Company of Heroes. You see, when the game was released, I was busy playing the modern, faster paced equivalent of CoH - World in Conflict.

It was a competitive time in the strategy game market, and I never, ever touched Company of Heroes. I have, essentially played the game that Company of Heroes grew up to be, by virtue of playing Warhammer: 40,000 Dawn of War II - which has combat based heavily on the Company of Heroes formula.

This gives me a little bit of an understanding of combat, in a very simplified manner. Company of Heroes, however is much more complicated than the game that came after it.

Relic is a fairly good developer, including significant quantities of tutorial material in the game, and introducing new concepts at an acceptable rate. From there, it is all about controlling your resources.

Manpower, Munitions, and Fuel. The essential elements of any armed conflict.

The other element is strategic points, and supply lines, ensuring the biggest problem of World War 2 is dealt with - getting stuff to the blokes at the front, who are facing the enemy.

It is a pretty complicated game. Sit down, and watch me struggle with it.
