CALL OF DUTY STRIKE TEAM REVIEW: When Android Games had Rich Gameplay

Since the main focus of game developers are now online/multiplayer games, some of us (like me) who find offline games more of a thrill have had to take solace in Old Android games- most of which were released in 2013. Like the Mordern Combat Series up till MC4 - MC 5 and MCV are not focused on the campaign mode- Call of duty is a thriller action game with an immersive storyline. It was developed by "The blast Furnace" and published by Activision. Although it has been retrieved from the google playstore long ago, it can be downloaded from third party websites. It took a while before I was finally able to make mine work due to my Android version and it was constantly force stopping. It later worked after I disabled the google playstore.

The story encompasses a threat from an unknown enemy and the U. S Joint task force are to lead the operation against it. Just before a mission, only then are you allowed to equip your squad. You get the info about your soldiers, your weapons - which is customizable. It is only sad that guns are not abound. Even though they come in different types, each only has three guns. One of the assault rifles, light machine guns, sub machine guns, sniper rifles and shotguns are provided for you as a newbie and you can equip whichever you want for a soldier. Although there are balanced, stealth and assault presets, you can still decide to customize the way you deem fit. There are also perks to equip with 2 slots for a start, you can decide to unlock it for 500 coins. These perks come in tier 1,2,3,4. It doesn't end there, there are equipments that consists of bombs, health packs E.t.c and care packages are guns.

GAMEPLAY: Drone View

Call of duty aims to give you the "best" of the action with its first person and tactical drone view. You control two soldiers simultaneously as you combat your enemies. It is a very easy control mode that stands out as unique. Quite similar to "Brothers: A Tale of two sons" where you also get to control two players at once.

You can switch between first person and drone view. From the drone view, you can select your soldiers from the far left corner of the screen and move them anywhere you want. Moving them in two ways; the first method allows you to select your soldiers and select the desired location and they subsequently move there. The second method allows you to touch and drag the selected soldier to your desired location. From the drone view, it is less stressful but more dangerous to kill an enemy as all it requires is a tap, shooting is autonomous and you only have to rely on your soldier's skills to keep him alive.

Once an enemy is tapped, it brings out two selectable options, the first gives way to instant "fire for fire", the second allows you to sneak up and knife your enemy - silent kill. Unlike some other games where dead enemy bodies disappear after a few seconds, it doesn't here and you can in fact, hide the enemy body to prevent detection. The third option is selectable once the enemy is dead and it picks him up. You have to be quick with the dumping though as the soldier carrying the corpse becomes a liability and can't even defend himself.

- FIRST PERSON

Switching between the first person and the drone view is very smooth and doesn't interrupt with the heat of the moment. Something makes the gameplay a lot easier, the arrow buttons at each side of the screen. Once clicked, it locks on the nearest enemy and you shoot to kill. It greatly reduces the time spent on searching for an enemy before taking a shot. Even though other games are not like that, they ain't bad. Gamers may be divided on this very function. It also employs the use of gyroscope- you can tilt your device to look around the environment. This is not mandatory as you can disable this and use your finger instead to pan the camera.

Unlike, the drone view where you can control both players simultaneously, it is not possible with the FPS mode. You can only call up your team mate by clicking the arrow at the far corner when you need him by your side and you can swipe the name of your soldier just below your screen to switch players. Your team mate doesn't follow you around, you have to control every bit of the action.

Your level increases as you progress through the game and with a higher level, you can purchase more items.

There are 3 locations for your campaign mode all of which comprises 6 levels and equally have a survival mode. I.e there are 3 locations for the survival mode. It is an endless spray of shots that continues until your character dies. The more the wave, the more difficult the enemies, it will even get to a wave where snipers will be everywhere. The survival mode is so designed not to keep you glued to a spot, defending. Rather, the continuous drop of ammo cache at different locations in each wave constantly keeps you on the move, attacking. Once your ammo runs out, your weapon is switched to the secondary - the pistol. Survival mode is a very fast way to substantially increase your player levels.

The STATS that can be found in the main menu shows you an in-depth analysis of your game so far. Your career, combat, squad, mission stats are shown. From your number of shots, shots fired, kill/ death ratio, deaths on FPS mode, shots fired, shot hits, headshots to your accuracy and favourite weapon. From the settings, you can customize your gesture controls, touch sensitivity from the x and y axis, gamepad sensitivity and reset it all over.

The only online function of this game is for the leaderboards. I.e there is no multiplayer whatsoever. But their servers are currently down so it is practically offline. This is the only "great" call of duty game for android as they are only focused on PC and Console at the moment.
