Enter the Peenoise

Although I play with a lot of my friends online in a lot of games I know them personally. Quirks and all.

So with the South East Asia server opening for Ragnarok Mobile Eternal Love and in particular a server for the Philippines I am again seeing that dreaded toxicity locally.

Unfortunately Filipinos as much as we like to say we are hospitable and kind when it comes to gaming we are as salty AF.

You know those 11 year old kid who keeps screaming if you kill them online and then they get a lucky shot and you'll never hear the end of it on how you are now his bitch.

He starts busting out how he made out with your mama jokes. Then it starts to get old so you make it a point to single him out each time and he starts complaining about bullying. Thinks never go well when you stoop down their level.

So I was observing the world chat and there was someone asking questions on the game and most of the people was telling him he is dumb and that there is such a thing called Google.

The whole exchange felt wrong because these folks were acting like know it alls and condescending. Sure it is possible that the person is lazy and did not bother to do his own research before trying to ask other people. To the others that told him off they were acting high and mighty because they are "veterans" of the game and know the ins and outs and so was pushing someone down because they lacked the information they possessed. Information at one point they did not know either.

I shouldn't get so worked up because it's just a game. Yet our behavior in games often show who we really are.

Amidst using an online avatar we are often removing the filters and mask we have face to face because we are afraid of being in an uncomfortable situation but the anonymity of cyber space affords us losing some moral and ethical inhibitions.

Online we can be who we want to be. It is a role playing game upon which we can be free to play whoever we want to be.

Sometimes I wonder why I subject myself to this.
