Introduction

During my first month on steemit, I made a publication on my passion for video games, and especially on my first gaming consoles (which I still keep preciously today).
At the time the least game cartridge was expensive, and my parents were not millionaires.
There were consoles or some games approaching 1400 francs (about 200 €, today).
So to summarize, we were missing out on great games because too expensive or not the good console bought, she frustrated for pimply teenagers ....
Although today the games are graphically very beautiful, and much more complete, the nostalgic and simple side of retro consoles returns to the front of the stage.
We find today, full of new versions of our consoles passed in the trade (megadrive, nes, super-borns etc ...), it is the fashion of the retrogaming and the builders one well understood. Their prices vary between 50 and 100 € with in some cases several games with.

The worst is that our children love these games from another time, much simpler and so fun.
I am going to talk to you in this article about the different possibilities to access this world of retrogaming.
To avenge this pimply teenager, who could not buy the games he wanted.
These solutions will allow you to own the consoles that made you dream younger and all the games that go with it, and all that without limits.

The different retrogaming solutions

Each console had a different system, with bios that allowed to decode the games.
Today it will be necessary to reproduce this system by a program (an emulator) with these bios.
There are a lot of emulators, some more efficient than others.
You can find some on sites quite easily, you just have to install them on a PC, and insert the Roms (games) of the chosen console in the corresponding folder of the emulator (including games arcade terminal) .
This solution will ask you for an individual search for each emulator, and these will be as many programs installed on your pc.

The second solution is much more practical and will require less effort, since all emulators will already be installed in the same program.
This program will allow you to play solo at home, but also to multiplay with other players around the world.
A very nice adaptation, because just impossible with the consoles of the time.
You will also be able to download different versions of the same game, European, us, Chinese, etc.
The first 8-bit game consoles did not allow the recording of your games, sometimes you had to take long breaks to resume our game or we left it.
The emulators allow you to save your games and resume at a specific place, and if you are stuck in a game, no need to start the whole game, it happiness ^^
The program in question is called romstation, it is extremely simple to understand and is a retogaming solution of high quality.

With romstation you have several consoles emulated in the same pc, we are already far from the current commercial solutions of retogaming.

A middle range PC will be enough to run all the emulators of romstation.
You will not have the latest consoles, I let you go on the site to see the proposed emulators.
For example the WII is not available, but you can emulate it with a program and a powerful pc, in a few years we will find it in romstation.
There is not much to explain on romstation, so it is easy to install and play on this support.
My last solution is the one that suits me the most, it allows you to create your own console or even arcade terminal. I am currently in full configuration of the latter.

Recalbox

I wanted to dedicate a pc to retrogaming, so start directly on it and more on the windows desktop. My solution is found, it is called Recalbox.
Recalbox is a linux solution that is usually installed on a Raspberry Pi3. A very practical mini-computer that allows various programming (home automation, system, robotics, etc.).

This Raspberry Pi3 is discreet, it can be put in the living room next to the main TV, or transported to a friend very easily; it is light, simple and practical, but ... ..
But the Raspberry Pi3 is limited in power, it will allow you to emulate a large number of consoles 8, 16, and 32 bits even see 64 and arcade terminals, but will cause problems with more recent generations.
I would not explain in this article how to do so much there is video tutorial about it.
But I can just say that it is very simple to do and very correct budget level, depending on your choice of config, between 60 and 120 €.

Personally I chose the option fixed pc in recalbox, more voluminous, but terribly more effective, even with a medium range video card.
For example, the dreamcast, or N64 pose no problem of emulation.
I'm trying to add another console or newer computer to create the perfect console of the moment.

Introducing Recalbox

When you start Recalbox, you will come to this page where you will find all your emulated consoles.

Several themes exist, you can customize your Recalbox very easily, there is a real community behind this program.

They work to improve the system, they are passionate; there is no case to look at the program to understand it.

The list of games is impressive, some images offer more than 18000 games.
Each update of Recalbox brings a lot of novelty, the latter is done directly in the system settings.
Some people have made their own arcade kiosks with this system installed, others create recallboxes in game cartridges, or old console.
