Games to Fill Your Mind

in #gaming5 years ago

Well, hello there, dear steemians! As you know, Valentine's Day is coming. You know, that overblown celebration of having a significant other, which always makes single people feel miserable. Oh joy!

Anyway, for those of us who do not have a relationship, I'll try to compile a list of games to play on this dreadful day, so as not to fall into alcoholism and depression. Without further ado, let's take a look at what I consider to be games which are guaranteed to keep your minds and hearts busy.

The first game which comes to my mind is...not a single game, but a series. The Metro Series by 4A Games. Being witness to the misery of others kinda has that effect of making you feel a little better about yourself on a subconscious level, and what is worse than having to survive day to day in a post World War 3 Moscow underground system, filled with extremists, mutants and a whole lot of radiation? Another reason to go through the series is the fact that the newest game, Metro Exodus comes out the very next day after Valentine's. So what are you waiting for, enter the metro. And, let's not forget about S.T.A.L.K.E.R, which is basically the progenitor of the Metro series, and an amazing open world FPS featuring the effect of nuclear destruction and mutants.

Now, I suggest we go from the bleak future to the dystopian present, with such masterpieces as the games from the Deus Ex series ( except the second one and Project Snowblind, the spin off ). Any game of the series will have your brain navigate a web of intrigue, giving you no time to leave their horrifyingly true predictions of the future. The amazing options in gameplay help too, seeing as any situation can be tackled in a multitude of ways ( immersive sim goodness over here ). Also, decisions which affect the story in either small or big ways, which is a pretty nice thing to have.

Speaking of immersive sims, systemic gameplay and stuff like that. It really challenges your creativity to make systems interact with each other in order to obtain certain results. Games like the Hitman reboot series and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild come to mind, in their own unique ways. In Hitman, you have to kill targets in any way you wish, orchestrating MacGyver-esque death accidents or simply going guns blazing. It is pure fun to see the domino effect of your actions. On the other hand, we have Breath of the Wild, in which the entire open world is based on systems which interact. Wood burns, metal attracts lightning, stones roll, ice melts, giving you a sandbox for combat, traversal and puzzle solving ( Looking Glass would have been proud of both of these games, for sure ).

Maybe you do not want to think, maybe you just want to destroy crap. Well, I have the games for you. Prototype and Just Cause. One has you massacring mutants and scientists responsible for a virus which threatens the entire world, but not because you are a hero, but because you are seeking revenge on the ones who destroyed your life. Fun for the whole family. On the other hand, there is Just Cause, in which you destabilize dictatorships in exotic locations on the globe. How do you do that? Blow up anything which helps funding the regime, just 'cause. A good mention here would be Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, in which you can cut your enemies into literal mince meat and most of the environment into tiny particles. Add to that a Metal Gear style story with a lot of silly stuff and you're in for a good time.

All in all, I hope I made your 14th of February a lot more tolerable, and maybe, just maybe, a little bit more fun.
