Breaking out the good old classics! Diablo 2 - Lord of Destruction

If you are old enough to know this game then you'll know how utterly awesome it was! If you never played this before and yet somehow carried on to Diablo 3 then... I have to say there is a gap in your education. :P

Sure Diablo 2 does not have the gorgeous graphics of its sequel, nor all the online content. Yet it was revolutionary. So many games and gaming companies were changed forever by this title. The time between Diablo 2 and 3 there has been a stream of similar games that have all got a special place in my heart.

To mention the most influential of these are: Titan Quest, Sacred and Torchlight.

So I decided to showcase the old faithful hack n slash.

Lineup.jpg

Gathered around the dim light of the campfire stand 7 heroes. Each of which have the capability to oppose Diablo and his brothers in their quest to conquer the mortal realm. Each of these heroes have a number of ways that they can be built which gives us repayable options for different builds. From left to right stand the following:

  • Amazon - A heroin skilled with the bow and spear, an agile hunter.
  • Assassin - A deadly fighter with an assortment of martial arts and traps at her disposal.
  • Necromancer - A practitioner of the dark arts. Able to command armies of undead and cast curses and spells of bone and poison.
  • Barbarian - A brutish warrior that is a one-man war machine. There is no hand to hand weapon that these warriors cannot master.
  • Paladin - A noble knight who uses divine powers to make himself and those around him strong.
  • Sorceress - An adept able to choose a variety of elemental powers to vanquish her foes.
  • Druid - A shapeshifter, a leader of a diverse party of followers and a mage of the natural elements.

Steemit gaming Journey

So I decided that I will play them out while making some record of their progress. These characters will be completely new and unedited (I don't believe in using that shit). This is not going to be a full constant thing, but if I am not in the mood for writing or watching a movie and I just want to hack some monsters then I will make some progress and record it.

Also this will be great for anyone who has never played the game and want to get a slight insight into what it's all about.

The first character I chose for this series is: The Barbarian!

This guy is possibly the easiest character for a new player to begin with and in the hands of a master can be deadly all the way through the game.

Using high strength to wear the best armor available at any time of the game and having access to a number of Weapons Masteries you have to ask yourself one important question when you start: What sort of weapon focus do you want to have? Each Mastery skill provides additional damage, accuracy and chance to critically hit with a specific type of weapon.

The options are:

  • Sword Mastery
  • Axe Mastery
  • Mace Mastery
  • Spear Mastery
  • Polearm Mastery
  • Throwing Mastery

Sword Mastery is pretty good. A Barbarian also has the ability to dual wield two, two handed swords! There is a staggering amount of good Swords in the game.

I am going with Axe Mastery on this one for that "true" Barbarian feel.

Mace Mastery would be pretty cool for either dual Morningstars or a massive Maul.

I can understand Polearm Mastery as these are some truly huge one-hit smash heavy weapons.

Spear Mastery is a bit strange. Sure Spears have some big damages but you might as well play Amazon if you like spears so much?

And lastly I have NEVER seen a Throwing Mastery being used. A Barbarian... marksman? There is a Double Throw skill in his skill tree but for the same reason I have never seen this developed or used.

The Barbarian has a number of different attacks and a bunch of warcries I personally will not touch for most of the game. Initially I will get a point on Bash and Double Swing and then pump the rest into Axe Mastery until can unlock some cool fighting moves. Meanwhile his damage will remain super high all the way through.

As I said this is a pretty easy character to play and instead of spending points on complex conditions towards victory, I focus on making a super strong clicking combative character that does not need much Mana to get his way on the battlefield.

I have elected to call him Steemcules! lol

And this is how he looks to start:

More to follow as I update you on the progress that Steemcules makes!

Adios.

Remember the golden 1.08 and 1.09 days in Lord of Destruction? I still have dreams about how good those days were. The very best gaming period of my life to be honest haha. Nice post!

Absolutely. It was a serious turning point in gaming history as I said. Haha!

I am going to be updating my journey with "Steemcules" soon!
