British Wavesailing Association (BWA) Event 1 - Time to be a film maker

So a hectic week getting ahead on the farm and packing for a weekend in Anglesea, North Wales happened and so did the epic forecast for Friday. Pro sailor Adam Lewis (pic above) won the event defeating local legend Phil Horrocks, this has been a great rivalry spanning the last 7 or 8 years with Phil being the older sailor who has dominated at this event since 2010. Adam however has become one of the best wave sailors in the world (currently ranked 5th in the world) and the last two years has taken the local master down.

This film was made in a couple of hours after a few beers in the pub, finally getting it online at 1:30am!! At Windsurfing.TV I report on events and try to make little daily video's like this when some action has happened, without the visit to the pub this could have been achieved by 10pm but after a full on day the temptation of a few pints with friends is hard to resist!!

I will be making a full event film and spent the morning filming interviews, setting the scene for the impending competition but by 11am competition was starting and I needed to rig my own gear and get a wetsuit on!! I got my gear ready and then went looking for someone to help me film the action whilst I'm competing. Luckily this event has a new drive to encourage youth sailors to come along and try wavesailing so one of the competitors sons Theo Shaw was willing to point the camera for a couple of heats while I sailed.

I sailed and enjoyed my heat (pic above slashing a wave) but to my surprise had actually qualified through to the next heat which meant I had to ask the ever keen 14yr old to film some more, he did a fine job and managed to capture some great clips including my own moves like the table top jump (see pic below)

So with Theo's help I managed to capture the days events with competiton finishing at 7pm, a long and slightly grey day but worth the effort in the end. Now the editing begins to make an end of event film which will go into much more detail about the riders, venue and competition. Driving back tomorrow should give me a chance to think about the structure of this end of event film.

There should be a few plants requiring my attention too, so follow up post to come soon.

Nice vid! Good work man! And a Nice payout coming your way too! Keep it up! :)

A great look at a different type of sport. It is amazing to watch some of the things these people can do out on the waves. Great job capturing the story and lots of great action.
