Female firefly!
Found that little lady while weeding in the vegetable garden! Never seen a live female firefly! They are not just magical to see at night but a helpful garden insect. Their larva feeds on feed on other insect larva, snails and slugs.

I don't know that I have ever seen a firefly, I doubt they frequent our area. Thank you for sharing! What are the differences between the males and females?

Male fireflies are like little beetles, they fly and also glow :) Here's a photo fron the internet:

We LOVE fireflies and have gerzillions of them here in Northern Thailand. And yes, they have wonderful function in the garden well beyond arousing our romantic, dreamy selves after dark.
