Building an Outdoor Lower and Lean Trellis for Tomatoes and Cucumbers

My first attempt at a lower and lean trellis system. It is typically a greenhouse technique but because of the unique weather and long growing season here in San Diego, I believe it will be an ideal system even outdoors. The proof will be in the pudding as they say.

I'll show you how I built it and how it's working today. I love this system and am very happy with it so far. I'm about to do my first lower and lean of the season which means all of my plants are now 6ft tall and ready for another 6ft of growth!

Thanks you guys! Cheers.

Hell yes, I'm looking for a trellis set up for cucumbers and tons of beans.

Sweet! Have fun setting it up and happy gardening!

I really love this idea. It gives that support but without kinda forcing the tomatoes to do your thing. Let us know how it turns out; I wonder if they'll end up growing in some kind of wild patterns to accommodate their twisty shape and lean support. I think I might steal this ;)

Oh steal all you want! I made this to put info out there and help people. Will definitely be posting an update video. I'm harvesting my first tomatoes right now and been getting at least 40 cucs a week. So far so good!

That's awesome! What do you do with it all? Need some good pickles recipes!

I sell it all at the farmer's market :)
