DOES MALABAR SPINACH RESEED ITSELF?

in #gardening5 years ago

Thankfully, the answer is YES!!!

Vining Spinach, Ceylon Spinach, or Malabar Spinach is an incredible plant that thrives in the heat of summer here and can be used as a spinach substitute. We love it fresh as well as cooked, and were so impressed with it last year that it is now one of my top three garden plants. Unfortunately, the seeds can be somewhat difficult to germinate.

Thankfully, as Zac from An American Homestead warned me, the plant can do an impressive job reseeding itself, and so it has. We could hardly keep up with about fourteen plants last year, so the fact that we've got over 100 volunteer seedlings in the garden means that I'll have seedlings to spare and seedlings to share!

Gotta love those volunteers!

I grew this last year in a pot. I'm going to have to look and see if it reseeded itself! I did have bought seeds that I planted somewhere else but they have not come up yet. What kind of temps does it need? It has not stayed consistently above 50 at night yet.

Not sure about exact temps. Mine just started sprouting here. Sub-tropical plant, so you may be a month off or so...

Nice good discovery feasting this year. I'll have to look up some seeds 💯🐒
