THE HUGEL MOUND LIVES!!!!
It's actually alive!
Recently, we built our first hugel mound ever. When we were finishing it up, we direct sowed a variety of seeds into it. At the moment we've got Daikon Radish, Kale, Turnips, Chard, Carrots, and some corn sowed in the mound. Many of these are already sprouting, and the hugel mound is coming alive!
The video above shows the whole process, and the photos below show the sprouts. These plants will be able to dig down into the mound and help break it down and hold it together, all the while producing food for our family. Check out these photos!

That looks good, I have wondered how a mound might compare to a raised bed, it will be interesting to see how it hangs together over the season.
