Planting Time!
WOWZERS! We worked so hard in the garden yesterday!
We planted popcorn, zucchini, leeks, parsnips, carrots, spaghetti squash, cucumbers, pumpkins, acorn squash, and a ton of different beans.
I even planted our sunflower house!!
We didn't get to the potatoes, honestly I spent more energy fighting the mosquitoes by the end than I did planting! They were out in crazy numbers and once the night skeeters showed up all hell broke loose! 😆
They were in my ears and my eyes, it was nuts!
But we got through it and got as much done as we could, I actually feel like I have a hang over today!
Next weekend we will get the rest done and weed it again. We'll also get our home garden going this week, the greenhouse is in full swing but the beds need to be mended. An add in of some sandy soil will do the trick, as our home beds tend to get compacted and turn to clay.

You'll have to find some plants that repel mosquitoes! eucalyptus, citronella?

Thanks so much!! I wish some plants would do the trick! The problem is more location, the neighbouring farmers fields are still a bit flooded, so there's stagnant water everywhere, plus I haven't seen even one dragonfly or wasp this year! At home in the city they aren't too bad at all, thankfully!
There are two things that work VERY well for mosquitoes: putting grapefruit oil on your skin or popping 10-20 vitamin B pills :)

Do you know the reason for vitamin B pills deterring them?
I would guess they don't like it in the blood?

Yeah something like that. It worked for me and for other people and it's harmless. But grapefruit oil contains nootkatone, which works like a dream.
I'll have to give that a try! I accidentally found my own repellant last night actually! I make this lotion bar with calendula and put some on before going in my backyard, the few mosquitoes that were there wanted nothing to do with me! Apparently calendula is a great deterrent as well! :)

I don't see Vitamin B on here but it does say some other repellents. Since your having such a bad time with the bugs I thought to research it. We get these suckers in California too...

That's so sweet of you, thanks! I think I may have found my own repellant totally by accident! I make this lotion bar using calendula infused olive oil and I put some on before heading outside. I literally watched a mosquito come up to my leg and do a U-turn to get away from me! 😆
