Making Dinner on the Rocket Stoves

in #gardenofeden5 years ago

This is how we cook every day in the @gardenofeden! All of our dank food is made over fire. In nice weather like we're enjoying here in Texas lately, we use the rocket stoves of the sustainable outdoor kitchen for fire cooking.

@quinneaker and @everlove built the stoves by hand out of dirt using a mixture of sand, straw, clay, and water. The stoves have an L shaped chamber with bricks supporting the structure, then they're glopped thick with the dirt = cob mixture and allowed to dry. Then you build a fire in the lower part of the chamber, and the heat and fire is sucked up the "chimney part".

We burn discarded fence panels that a friend brings; he has a fencing company and would otherwise have to pay to dump old fence panels at the landfill while polluting the earth.

Stick a grate and a pot of food over the fire and voilà!

This particular fire is especially sparktastic, potentially because there were nails in the fence panel fuel. It's also especially hot to quickly boil the broth in this pot.
