It was a gay day in Dublin yesterday when thousands took to the streets to celebrate with PRIDE. The main event was a parade through the city culminating in a concert on Smithfield Square

The city council certainly did themselves proud for their family-friendly, no alcohol, no glowsticks, no backpacks, no large bags event, erecting big black screens around the square to corral the revellers, who had to run a gauntlet of security personnel and Gardai to enter or exit.

Yes, you're reading that correctly. It does say WE ARE CHURCH IRELAND

Anyone wishing to wet their whistle whilst boogieing on down, flocked to the cafes and bars outside of the cordon. The sunshine was glorious, the craic was ninety and every foot of pavement was a dance floor. And yes, even outside the barricades, without all the security, people managed to party while at the same time refraining from stabbing each other or kicking each other's heads in. Imagine that.

Meanwhile, down the road on Capel Street, a large contingent of Gardai struggled to keep the partying throngs in line outside the famous Panti Bar, owned by the world famous Panti Bliss (The queen of Ireland), where on Friday, a brick with a homophobic slur written on it, piteoga amach as Eireann or fairies out of Ireland, was thrown through the window.
