FEW OF THE CREATURES IN NATURALS HISTORIA BY PLINY

Whether or not the ancients really believed in the bizarre and strange creatures, nobody really knows. In some writings found it was insisted that they really existed. However mostly the folklore used the creatures to teach moral and social values, using the supernatural. Thee are many, I will only mention few .
HIRCOSERVUS.

He was half deer and half goat. Mentioned by both Plato and Aristotle in their Philosophical works.
MONTICORE

Half man and half beast. Described by Pliny The Elder, first Century: Natural Historia" as the creature as four feet, head like a man, size like a lion,the tail one cubit long with sharp thorn shooting out like darts at those who hunt them."
MONOCEROS.

Pliny describes it as a best with the body of a horse, head of a stag,feet of an elephant, tail of a boar, and interchangeable with a unicorn.
OGRE

Larger than a human, extremely ugly and feasts on the flesh of humans.

PARD.

Large spotted cat, with great speed who mated with lions to produce Leopards.

SEAMONK.

Lived in the seas around Denmark, fish-like scales and resembles a monk.

MONOPADS

From Ethiopia, one legged humanlike being with massive one foot.The Greeks called them shade footed, as it is believed that they lifted their foot to protect them from the sun while lying on the back.
UNICORN.

In the Middle Ages Unicorns were associated with the Virgin Mary, and that the death of Unicorns paralleled Jesus' Crucifixion.
VEGETABLE LAMB OF TARTARY.

Appears in both Jewish and Celtic folklore. The lamb is attached to a plant by the umbilical cord and only graze in the near vicinity.
BASILISK.

King of the serpents, and could kill by breath, touch, and voice, looking at its eye could lame you. Small snake like reptile.
BLEMYSS

Headless man mentioned in most African countries.

Body of a lion head of and eagle with wings of an eagle.
