Margate Beach - Australia

in #getyerlearnon6 years ago

Known for it's great fishing Margate Beach is in Red Cliff in Queensland that likely doesn't attract a great deal of international travelers.

There are plenty of Australians visiting here from other parts of the country, especially this time of year when the weather is becoming warmer in the north and it is still really cold in the south.

People are fishing everywhere, and it is easy to rent boats at a number of places and at least for now, the near beach accommodation is relatively cheap (easy to find for less than $100 per night.)

The beachfront area is what did it for me. I like to go for a run or walk or just get some activity in my day and the winding footpaths out here are just outstanding.

Even if you don't like to run or don't want to exercise you can certainly appreciate the free filtered water dispensers that are located all around the walkways. Opposite the beach are a wide array of restaurants but here is the only thing i found that I didn't like about the area. I have been to half a dozen restaurants and the service is weird, if not downright rude. No one will come talk to you at your table, you are required to go to a counter and order for everything you want... what is this? McDonalds? In one instance the bartender at a not-at-all-busy bar called The Belvedere was was quire rude to me when I was unfamiliar with the beers on tap and asked a few short questions.

Whatever, i can let that slide, the area is stunning and the beach is impeccably clean and the amount of free activities that local council provides is a far cry from what i am accustomed to in South East Asia where the state provides pretty much nothing.

Especially if you like to fish and you are in Queensland anyway I would say that this area should be considered. I know a few people that think there is nothing better than grabbing a cooler of beers and some bait and hitting the open sea.

Sort:

As you descend the Coast, you get closer and closer to my brother in Brisbane. If you see a grumpy looking chap, ordering two kids about like they are soldiers, it just might be him.

You must have passed Australia Zoo on your way down. It was founded by Steve Irwin, who was killed by a sting ray. As a diver, you may have heard of that story. It's a cautionary tale that involves being very cautious around wild animals, of which there are plenty in Australia.

I think you visited Queensland at the right time, as it gets ridiculously hot later in the year. I don't fish, as I never liked the idea of the hook in their mouths, though I eat fish, so I'm a hypocrite, I guess. I do love a cooler of beers, though, whether the weather is hot or cold. :)

yeah man. I have fallen in love with the temperature here. I have determined that i need to find a place that has a temp like this is SE Asia. The search parameters have been redefined! I can't live here because well, i don't think i could handle everything being so expensive and there are a ton of rules here.

Oz is a lot like the US in terms of the look of their streets and the tv they watch, I thought.

Oz has two principal immigrant (as opposed to the indigenous aboriginal) cultures: the puritans and the larrikins, two cultures that are descended from British settlers.:-

The larrikins are like Crocodile Dundee, they don't give a damn about rules or what anyone says. Their culture comes from the prisoners that Britain sent to Australia in exile, as part of their sentences for stealing and stuff like that.

The puritans meanwhile, are i charge, and love making officious laws, like banning porn on the internet and stuff, and their culture is descended from the prison guards and military officers that Britain sent to oversee the prisoners in the colonies.

These two cultures are alive and well today, meaning that Australian laws are out of control crazy controlling, but Aussie larrikin defiance of being told what to do is equally tough.

We Brits have a lot to answer for! LOL

Quiet beaches are nice. I accidentally stumbled onto a nude beach but now I go there just to get away from all the hoopla.

Looks beautiful! Your recent Australia posts are inspiring me 😜
