Mission Impossible 3 (film): I think it is the best one

in #getyerlearnon6 years ago

Despite the fact that it is a foregone conclusion that the good guys are going to win these movies are wonderfully entertaining. I would say spoiler alert but to be honest what is there to spoil in a film franchise that pretty much always ends the same? You know from the offset what the end result will be, it is just a question of the steps that are taken to achieve that end.

I have not seen the most recent Mission Impossible film because i live in a part of the world where the films are overdubbed in Thai, which i can understand but all the feeling is lost in the actors' voices when this happens and I hate it. I would rather wait to see it in its original form a year from now.

What makes all the Mission Impossible films great is the absurd situations that Ethan (Tom Cruise) and his team have to overcome - I am quite certain that nearly everyone on the planet is at least somewhat familiar with this being the case. In this film I particularly enjoyed the sequence where they have to break into the Vatican without being detected (and of course they aren't detected.)

Now, the main thing that make 3 the best for me is not the special affects or the crazy situations and stunts (which are great) but because of the performance of Philip Seymour Hoffman. This man is a truly amazing actor and despite the fact that he is far from being physically intimidating his delivery and his complete lack of empathy towards anyone is absolutely terrifying.

Hoffman plays the role of Owen Davian, a ruthless black-market dealer who fears no man, and even though he is threatened with death he doesn't crack under pressure. I never would have thought that producers would think of casting someone as small as Hoffman in the role of a primary villain, and when i found out he was going to be said villain i was apprehensive - but wow did he nail it.

The film didn't get terribly great critical review but to be honest that is really easy to understand seeing as how the critics tend to all but ignore blockbuster action films. I would imagine the people bankrolling it don't really give a damn though, seeing as how it pulled in $400 million from a $150 million budget.

I can't really give this film too high of marks because well, it is the usual Hollywood stuff. I just think it deserves extra credit for Hoffman's performance.

7 / 10

Sort:

This is, without a doubt, one of the best action movies to date and just as good as the new Mission: Impossible film, Ghost Protocol. Ethan Hunt (played by the awesome and bad-ass Tom Cruise) has just gotten married; life has never been better, until the IMF calls Ethan in on a rescue mission to secure and transport a fellow agent, whom Ethan previously trained and mentored. Before the mission is completed, things go from bad to worst; Ethan looses a friend, and a massive terror plot is unveiled for Ethan to prevent.

J.J. Abrams, one of the most imaginative and intelligent directors/writers of the decade, mastered this film without breaking a sweat and took it so far that Tom Cruise was even thrown against a car by a (very) close explosion. Tom Cruise is at the top of his game here, giving not just a great acting performance, but a believable take on a man with everything to lose, and shows it in just about every action scene from middle to end. Ving Rhames is Ving Rhames, the genius Luther Stickell, and new arrivals Maggie Q and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers play out their roles perfectly. All in all, this film is a great addition to the M:I film series and a wonderful action-packed thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the final scene.

i absolutely love the explosion scene where Tom gets thrown. that was very well done. Thanks for your follow-up. It was brilliant as usual.

I have seen the thriller and its really awesome. Can't wait to see the full movie

I am big fan of tom cruse.

i think so

The films of Tom cruise have never disappointed this one leaves the line of the majority of its films by the sense that is given to him see that such it goes to him and as it is the receptivity of the same in the public greetings and my respects with my support of my vote.

JJ Abrams combined the best elements of the previous parts, practically getting rid of their shortcomings. Before us an interesting and exciting action without excessive show-off with explosions and slow-motion shooting. Actually, this is the main merit of Abrams - I can not name any of his brilliant films, but I can not name any bad. If he faced the task of finding the golden mean between the first two parts, he performed it without any genius, but as qualitatively as possible. In this case, however, adding a bit of melodrama from yourself.
The main advantage of the third part, I think her main villain. Hoffman perfectly got used to the image and flawlessly fits into his role, if you forget about the final fight, which somewhat smears the impression. Still, this character should not go down to a banal massacre. Among the other actors, I would like to mention Myers, let it not be his brightest role, but Laurence Fishburne is still the worst of all the bosses, in my opinion. Michelle Monaghan is ideal for the role of an ordinary American wife, but outwardly inferior to the girls from the past, and significantly.
I liked that it was here that a normal division into mini-missions appeared and a wide geography of filming with enough recognizable landscapes, let Berlin and did not allow to realize the original idea with the Bundestag. Shanghai is good and like new skyscrapers, and as tiny houses in the old districts - cool, that we were shown by both sides of this city. In general, having solved the problem with the shortcomings of the first two parts, the film lost some of its originality, so I can not call it tangible progress, but from the whole trilogy it turned out to be the most smooth in the aspect of combining the visual series and the script.
