Socrates' teachings found a true deep and faithful continuator in the face of Plato, one of the greatest philosophers of all time. And even if we do not agree with Emerson's enthusiastic statement that Plato's philosophy and philosophy is Plato, we still have to admit that there is no one else who has left so deep and lasting traces in her story. Plato was born in 427 / probably on May 7 / in Athens. His father, Ariston, and his mother, Pericion, were descended from the most prominent aristocratic families; the father was a royal family of the Codrids, and the mother was leading her solo from Solon, and was the closest relative of the prominent political figures, Harmit and Critius, leaders of the aristocracy. The true name of the philosopher is Aristocles.
It 's Plato was called by his gymnastic teacher because of his broad forehead and broad chest / Greek word "plitos" means width. Gifted with extraordinary physical and spiritual abilities, Plato received early universal education, and to this day, for example, the names of his teachers of literature, gymnastics and music are known. At that time, as it was known, Greece had already spent the apogee of its cultural development, and especially in the literature glimpsed the names of the great writers like Eshil, Sophocles, Euripides, Aristophanes and others. Not surprisingly, then, when a rarely poetic talent, a young man, began writing dramatic works, dirtiambi, epigrams and poems. He also experimented in painting. Especially in philosophy, his first teacher was Kratyl, a follower of Heraclitus, who, however, interpreted his teachings fully relativistic, so that Plato himself later referred to him not quite flatteringly. He also studied and knew the teachings of the Proletar and the other sophists, Anaxagor and the Pythagoreans, who later exercised a strong influence on it.
Of all the influences, however, the highest impact of Socrates, whose disciple Plato became twenty years old (407), did not leave him until his very death. We may even consider that the encounter between the two related spirits is one of the most fruitful phenomena in the history of mankind. Sam Platon later thanked the gods for creating a man, not an animal, a man, not a woman, not a barbarian, not a barbarian. But mainly because they let him live in the time of Socrates. His teaching, but especially his personal example and his willingness to give everything to philosophy, Plato remained faithful throughout his long life. His writings, in which Socrates is almost certainly the main actor, are perhaps the greatest monument ever to a learned disciple who has elevated his own captive to his entire life-teacher.
The influence of the great social and political events at that time was added to the immediate teachers. Plato's youngsters run during the continuous and devastating peoples' Peloponnesian war when Athens and Sparta head military alliances and exhaust their forces. The winner is Sparta, who begins to interfere with the interior affairs of Athens and manages to impose temporary management of the aristocracy in the face of the 30 tyrants headed by Plato-Crete's relative.
