Some thoughts about the ethical issues of violence and cruelty /part 6/

The protection of minors is a leading programmatic principle of the media. This principle incorporates a ban on violence and pornography. There are European documents that try to standardize the ways in which violence is presented in the media: broadcasting preliminary warnings to the audience when scenes of violence will be displayed; the adoption of codes of conduct defining the responsibility of editors and other professionals; adoption of internal regulations in each media - own standards and criteria.

Parental responsibility should not be omitted - they should inform and control the access of children to electronic media programs when they feel it necessary. Because if there is signaling to protect minors and minors, but parents do not respond, the effectiveness of such a measure would be dubious. It is the responsibility of the state to invest more money and to produce more works that do not contain scenes of violence. In 2005, SACP conducted a competition-idea for computer game without violence. Wonderful ideas have been received that have already been realized and disseminated. The Agency's interaction with the media and child victims of violence that have become the subject of media coverage should also be noted here. It's about the so-called. secondary victimization - the representation of victims of crimes in the media has the impact on the victims themselves. Ie. The affected person can again become a victim, this time because of the media illumination of his case. SACP was approached by the mother of a child victim of sexual violence who was interviewed for television reportage with her classmates. The journalist community could discuss such striking cases of disregard for basic human rights and ethical standards.

Moral and Social Aspects of Parental Control.

Parental responsibility has two main dimensions:
1.Social responsibility - related to the child's overall care, aimed at forming the child as a person able to fit and function fully in society.
2.Moral responsibility
Parental control as social responsibility.
a) Parental control promotes the smooth running of the socialization process. The family sets the foundations of the personality, carries the dominant values-normative standards in society and relays them to the new generation.

Parental supervision promotes the assimilation of social experience through the development of ideas in the rearing of "allowed" - "unauthorized", "approval" - "deprecate", "accepted" - missed ", etc. In society, one of the mechanisms of social control in this direction is public opinion. At the family institution level, parental control directly or indirectly directs, conveys rules, guides the child's behavior according to generally accepted norms. According to some American authors, parental love alone is not enough for the positive social development of children. Some levels of parental control are also required.
