California Sunsets #51 ~ Golden Hour Contest

These are my entries for Sunday's #goldenhourphotography contest
hosted by @juliank.

It feels like the California Heat Wave is slowly ending and hopefully the fires as well. The heat and humidity combined with the smoke and ash from the California fires has given us some unique summer sunsets over the past couple of weeks.

This photo, with the hazy sunset overlooking Malibu and the Santa Monica Mountains was taken from Pacific Palisades (Will Rogers State Beach) on Thursday, August 9th.

Interesting TV trivia - many of the original Baywatch episodes were shot at this Life Guard Station and on the other side of the building is one of the Baywatch Lifeguard Boats. See my prior blog California Sunsets #18 - Pacific Palisades / Baywatch.

These hazy photos were taken from Santa Monica on Friday, August 10th.

Dude, these pictures remind me of last years fires and you took that sun pic that looked like Mar's sun. One again I see you'r promoting Baywatch!

You recall that photo. I should edit this and repost that photo. It was a brutal week with layers of ash down here. It was worse up there in Glenjail if I remember. Yes I always promote Baywatch! Still a place I take dates on my bike tour (;

I got that picture, it was the last week in July a couple of years ago and it was snowing ash everywhere. No body could go out the air was so bad. IMG_8266.JPG

This is so not earth-like. You should start blogging. I recall those fires in the valley and it was like a late October snow flurry back home in NY. I couldn't bike for a week due to the air quality.

It was bad up here, the ash actually had an "accumulation"" of about a 1/4 inch! Just like right around Halloween growing up. Maybe I'll start posting once steem goes back up. You'r better at it after all.

The sun corona in the first photo looks astonishing. It is just so sad it was actually caused by the smokes from the wild fires :( Are they still burning?

The skies at times are very Mars-like. Reports are that New York is getting some of the smoke from the fires (because of the jet stream). The fires are still burning, but they are getting control of some of the largest fires. Crazy.

What? The smoke from California is traveling as far as to New York? That basically means that most of the US area has some of the smoke in the air... That is insane. Hopefully, all the fires will be put out soon.

It so wrong! It's like a bunch of mini volcano's.

Oh I drove by a campground tonight and the smokey haze was brutal so I can only imagine what its like there. Hope they get them all out soon and have a good week!

I'd prefer campground smoke... just burning wood! One of the biggest is about 50 miles away (I have family down there) and seems to be getting under control.

Lovely orange sky! :)

Thank you :)

Santa Monica with haze? Say it isn't so! Santa Monica is perfection! Are the forest fires over in the high desert affecting you down there at all? I know it is far away, but, sometimes, those winds travel.

Gorgeous watch of the bay I love the history of your shot. I have never seen Baywatch but I know it is legend David Hasselhoff. :)

Oh, that sun is so brilliant, it is burning a hole in the sky!

I know, right! As you probably have seen in the news, there are many fires. The Hope Fire is about an hour away and we were getting the smoke and ash for a few days. Just like a light snow dusting on everything. That combined with the month long heatwave and humidity made things worse. It has improved over the past couple of days.

@armentor, For sure California Fire incident is really unfortunate and let's hope and wish that everything will be fine soon.

And for sure Sun is truly reflecting different means we don't have clarity inturn as you said it's reflecting as Hazy.

And for sure that sky view and clouds are telling the whole different stories and sometimes nature really gives the mysterious scenes.

And sometimes behaviour of nature holds really different essence and different face which we never saw before.

Wishing you an great day and stay blessed. 🙂

Thank you my friend! The fires are getting put out and under control thank god.

Welcome and good to hear that. Stay blessed.
