Done and dusted for another 4 years

The results board being updated looks like an airport with the flight arrivals. There were just too many parties this time around.

South Africa had their elections on Wednesday and the results are looking very similar to 2014 with very little movement. The much expected growth of the Democratic Alliance party hasn't really materialized.

If we look at the ANC they have dropped around 5 percent since 2014 they were at 62% and now looking at finishing this election at 57%. The Democratic Alliance has basically stayed the same so in theory have grown 22% then and now 21%. The far right group the EFF have nearly doubled in size and are now at 10 %. This was down to their land reform program that they have been pushing.

To think with all the corruption news and the State capture by the ex President and his gang of crooks didn't have any effect on the results. The one that grew was the Economic Freedom Fighters which is under Julius Maleema. This is seen as a far right party and had gained their votes from pushing for land reform.

I am not shocked or disappointed as the results are as expected. The DA is just not strong enough and is not seen as credible enough to rule the country. They still kept the Western Cape and is still the only province under their control. All the other provinces were won by a big margin by the ANC even though they say Gauteng which is where I live they say it is close as in under 50 percent.

This year there were 48 parties on the election ballot and to be honest the form was way too long. There are loads of disgruntled parties now who are complaining about dishonesty. There are some who say they know where votes were cast and they are showing as zero. The one party leader voted at a certain station and it still showed as a zero for his vote.

The 35 parties only received 300 000 votes out of roughly 18 Million votes cast. This is minimal and wouldn't change much, but it does need to be looked at for fairness come the next election. I don't think anyone is happy unless you win and there will always be complaints from someone.

What struck me as odd with this election was the younger population stayed away as they are fed up. This doesn't make sense as change can only happen with your vote. Listening to what they are saying is by not voting they are sending a message that they are not happy and change needs to happen. I just wish the educated youth who stayed away voted so change could happen.

What I found interesting is that we are told that there are over 56 million people living in South Africa and are only expecting 18 million votes to be cast. They say that there are roughly 18 million people under 18 so that leaves another 20 Million. I have no idea how many of the youth didn't vote , but from the people in the know they say that the majority didn't vote. Who knows what another 6 or 10 million votes would have done. The masses fought for years to have the right to vote and now they aren't even voting. This doesn't make any sense to me and if you aren't happy then change it. How do you change something by keeping quiet.

Sort:

That is too bad that the corrupt leaders are going to stay in power. Voter apathy is a big problem all over the world. Don't feel bad about that one. It's too bad they can't make the process easier, but even then, I don't know as though it would matter. That is a lot of parties running right there!

Wow sir cryptoandcoffee, the results were as expected but I agree, it makes no sense whatsoever that the youth didn't vote, they are the ones who will have to clean up that mess someday and they could start making changes now.
