Elections are around the corner

Today I was greeted by election pamphlets from the Governments opposition party being handed out at the traffic lights.I don't watch the TV much and when I do it is normally a news channel from overseas. I have never watched the local TV channels as they are really very poor and low quality. South Africa has a long way to go on this front.

I knew the elections were coming soon but it shows you the lack of interest when one party is so dominant it is like a dictatorship. I think the Opposition party can make some inroads, but the uneducated will still vote for the ANC. Education should be a priority, but they wont rush this process. The ones who know what is going in on the real world will side with the opposition and will be a few more elections away to challenging and maybe having a fair chance.

I say fair chance as we know that corruption and vote fiddling is rife in Africa and there are few exceptions where a "fair" election was held. I can recall the last election when ballot boxes were found after the count was completed.

It was interesting to see what the opposition's key fighting points were though for this election.

1.Anyone involved in corruption can expect to receive a minimum of 15 years imprisonment. The current government can't afford to lose as this would have most of them locked up.

2.Replacing corrupt Police officers with trustworthy ones.Easier said than done.

3.Improving education. The more educated the population is the better chance of votes being able to make up their own minds and not being hood winked.

4.Is securing the borders. This is needed desperately as people come and go as they please. Visas to be introduced for stipulated periods. Serious crime is happening and a majority has been proven that it is being done my foreigners. This would help stabilize the country.

As much as I would like to see them get in power and sort this mess out I don't think they have a chance. The masses who are still uneducated see the ANC as a religion and they helped get rid of Apartheid.Their grandparents and parents voted for them so it is more of a tradition.

And if they then do get in power, will they keep the promises they made???

Wow, that is horrible. Those are some good goals that the opposition party has if they can ever find a way to implement them though.

Howdy sir cryptoandcoffee! Wow what an uphill battle the opposition faces. Well it may take some years but maybe they can influence the younger generation.

It may change eventually. The problem is they don't want to educate the youngsters as then they can think for themselves. Keeping them ignorant, keeps them in power and that is the reality.

oh rats! that's true. Well barring a miracle it doesn't look like change is coming anytime soon, or even in a decade or more.
