The Misplaced Coin

in #grace6 years ago

Using the text Luke 15 and examining the lost coin, I came to the understanding that the spiritual view of things is more than the physical.

Paul explains what makes the people see the magnificent work of God in a Church. Read the passage below, 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 (KJV). This is where we are told of the nine gifts of the spirit; but are they actually nine? Or we are seeing the nine coins that are not misplaced? 4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. The gifts are always counted from verse 8 of the chapter and at verse 10, you get nine gifts as highlighted above. Have you been taught or you have believed that this scripture (1 Corinthians 12:4-11) presents nine gifts of the spirit? I have too until I got a revelation about it.

If it was never counted, it would have been easy not to perceive that one coin was missing. We have established that a coin is only as powerful or valuable as its ‘legal power’. If there is need to classify importance of these coins, which will you call the best gift? This is because even Apostle Paul advised that we earnestly covet the best gifts (I Corinthians 12:31). Even if you will ‘covet’ the best gifts, you need to know about the gifts and if they can be numbered, to know the exact number. The use of coin shows that the woman needs these coins complete to be able to operate or function in her tasks. Ten coins will easily connote that it were her savings.

Though this may be her savings, it suggests lack rather than affluence. If her state was that of affluence, she really will not bother for a missing coin. The amount of the coin is very small but it should teach us to always go in search even for minute things. This things that really do not look like the coin, (gift) might really be the one we have misplaced. The state of everyman without the Lord is a state of lack. Why did she (‘Church’) not see this coin ever since? Let us reveal the lost coin now. Read the passage again. Now to understand what we are searching for, read verse 7 alone in the following versions (get more for clarification).

To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good (ESV).

The Holy Spirit displays God’s power through each of us as a means of helping the entire church (TLB).

But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit to profit withal (ASV).

But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit [the spiritual illumination and the enabling of the Holy Spirit] for the common good (AMP).

The Spirit has given each of us a special way of serving others (CEV).

The evidence of the Spirit’s presence is given to each person for the common good of everyone (NOG).

But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good (NASB).

Something from the Spirit can be seen in each person, for the common good (NCV).

To each person the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the benefit of all (NET).

The Holy Spirit is given to each of us in a special way. That is for the good of all (NIRV).

Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good (NIV).

But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all(NKJV)

In a common note, when you say something is ‘given’ to someone, it means that he did not have it before and we can classify it as a gift. If this is correct, we must understand that every one of us has something, and no one of us have everything. As a Christian group we cannot say we have all the gift of the spirit and need nobody to work with.

This has been a big problem in the body of Christ which has made the Church today live in isolation, and self-sufficiency, and a host of other evils as the church engage in competitions instead of unity of spirit and purpose. ‘The manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man,’ the mega church, the small ones, the educated priest, the uneducated, the foreign based or the local based. Everybody is given the manifestation of the spirit ‘to profit withal.’ You must understand that this manifestation of the spirit is on its own a gift. We have often time seen this verse 7 as an introduction to the gifts. No. This is a gift on its own, it is a coin that completes the other nine.

This coin (verse 7) is mostly not perceived as a gift because we all go in search for the ones that we can relate to like working of miracles and not unity of purpose where we bring our gifts to the table and get to know the gifts of other people.

What do you think groups or organizations are about?
