Grand Solar Minimum: Coldest UK May bank holiday weekend since records began

I arrived in the UK to the warmest Easter bank holiday since records began only to be followed two weeks later by the coldest May bank holiday since records began!

Records are being broken not just here but all over the world.

Much of Europe is under snow with an abnormally long winter stretching into the Spring months.

In North America the extensive cold followed by extensive flooding has meant that huge numbers of grain farmers in the corn belt will be unable to plant this year.

Why is this happening?

These weather extremes are 100% EXPECTED as we move deeper into the Grand Solar Minimum, a period of reduced solar activity, reflected on Earth by a prolonged cold period.

The sunspot solar cycle is known to be 11 years long but there is another much longer cycle of 400 years which reduces the normal fluctuations of the 11 year cycle to almost nothing.

The last Grand Solar Minimum was in 1650 during a 70 year cold period known as the Maunder Minimum (Mini Ice Age) in which many people died due to starvation, disease & civil unrest.

Looking back at history we can see that agriculture was the first thing to collapse as extreme weather became the norm.

This time around will be no different.

What can you do to prepare?

Food prices are going to rise at an extraordinary rate over the next few years, so unless you are rich, growing your own food will be the only way to make ends meet.

Personally I break it down into four subjects, listed here in order of importance:

• Water
• Food
• Heat
• Electricity

If your tap stops running, where will you get water from, assuming there is none in the shops?

If there is no food available in the shops, where will you get your food?

If your standard heating isn't working, how will you warm yourself?

If there is no electricity, do you have a back-up system?

The way we answer these questions will be different for each person, but it is good to think about them now so there is no panic later.

Looking at my personal situation in the South of France:

Water

Our home is close to a canal which flows all year from the glacial peak of our local mountain. We bought filters which make it safe for drinking.

Food

We have stocked up on long lasting foods and will continue to add to this stock as time goes on. We are also growing our own food in two separate locations.

Heat

We have stocked up on terracotta pots and candles which if use correctly can be an amazingly effective heating system.

Electricity

We have two small solar panels which charge a torch and any other usb devices.

In Conclusion

Don't take my word for any of this! Go and do your own research if you are in any doubt about the fast approaching Grand Solar Minimum. We have been sold the idea that global warming will cancel out the expected cold period, but this is simply not the truth.
