The possum are part of the marsupial family of mammals, they are also called opossum. Other well-known marsupials include kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, wombats, and Tasmanian devils. The possum grows to be the size of a normal house cat.

I took these possum photographs at my neighbors house. They put out seed for this possum, it eats there on the railing by the front door to their home. He was very tame as I passed by, just inches away, to snap these wonderful photo's.

"Playing Possum"

Many people are familiar with the term, "playing possum." This is because when confronted the possum plays dead. This is actually not an act, instead it more like fainting. When a possum is "playing possum", its lips are drawn back, teeth are bared, saliva foams around the mouth, eyes close or half-close, and a foul-smelling fluid is secreted from the anal glands. The stiff, curled form can be prodded, turned over, and even carried away without reaction. The animal will normally regain consciousness after a period of a few minutes to four hours.
