The Great Liberal Global Dictatorship

Is the liberal experiment doomed? Was there even a liberal experiment. Yes many diseases were eradicated and so many people were “lifted” out of poverty. But in the process the world was transformed into one grand, consumptive engine, fueling pollution and excessive exploitation of lands both near and far. The world never really was liberal. The hollow and superficial two-party democracy of the U.S. was pitted against the ruthless fascism of the Soviet Union, each arming dictators throughout the world. The world headed towards 2020 has stripped off most of the farcical window dressing and we can see how things really are. Oligarchs, politicians, CEOs, and dictators vying for power and survival throughout the globe. The figurehead of the U.S does make for a certain status quo for sure. If the world had 6 equal powers it might be similar to a worldwide warlord state with chaos reigning all over. For all their damning powers of destruction, the threat of nuclear weapons was able to keep a truce of sorts throughout the 2nd half of the 20th century.

It is estimated that since the 1500s some 90 empires have come and gone throughout the world. During this time, the world order was mainly defined by 3 empires: the Iberian age (1494-1805), the British imperial era (1815-1914), and the Washington world system (1945-2025). The new era may well be the Chinese world system, as under the Belt and Road Forum, which brought 130 nations to Beijing in 2017, as the formal start of the Chinese era. Also as a counterpoise to NATO, China founded the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2001. Similarly as a counterpoint to the World Bank, Beijing formed the Asian Infrastructure Development Bank in 2016 that immediately attracted 70 member nations. Is China a nation deeply involved in humans rights violations? Yes. Does the U.S. also have swimming pools of blood on its hands? Yes. Is there moral equivalency or ethical superiority to be argued for on either side? Highly unlikely. So the world waddles forth on its same perplexing, exhilarating, and depressing journeys towards answering the question whether or not it can achieve true civilization. The messy dance continues. peace, @clumsysilverdad

I think the United States is still a few steps above China, but I think things are beginning to change, the Chinese government seems to have things a little more in order, and the United States has its hands in many places at the same time.
