GoPro video of me shooting competition stages

in #guns5 years ago (edited)

I got home earlier today from my shooting event 300km away and have spent the afternoon cleaning guns and equipment. I have a big handgun event this coming Saturday, more of the shooting you'll see in the video below, so I've been recovering also as my [not so] old bones were protesting a little after the thrashing I gave them in the last few days. It was a great event over the weekend and one that I simply couldn't sum up in one short post...So I won't try.

See those mountains in the image above? That's where I was shooting over the weekend. I took this right before I turned off the black stuff onto the dirt. The terrain was fairly rugged in places but not too bad I guess. Oh, we also did some hard-core socialising around the campfire after the last rounds were fired each day. The catering was great, company was good and of course the shooting was fun and challenging at times as well.

The event was a three gun shooting competition comprising rifle, shotgun and handgun over 12 different stages which were enjoyable and reasonably challenging each in their own way. I wore my GoPro for several stages which I have put into a little video for you below which I hope you enjoy. Disclaimer: I am not a video editor and it took all of my [almost non-existent] skills to get together. I didn't get any shotgun stages but the video shows some rifle and handgun which you may find interesting. Or not.

The thing about watching myself back on video is I can see all my mistakes, of which there were many. You may not pick them but there's a few that cost me time which is not good. The scoring is done by dividing points by the elapsed time for each stage which gives a hit factor value which is the score for that stage. That's why time is so important. Anyway, there's a few mistakes that I'll be working on including changing where I reload my handgun from down low to up high in front of my face for one. Anyway, don't worry about that. Take a look if you want.

Oh, just for the record I finished 25 of around 100 shooters overall [I have a plaque but thought it was dumb to show it here]. I was satisfied with that placing considering the calibre of shooters there and I'd hardly used the the rifle I was shooting prior. I went for fun though, and fun is what I had so I feel it was a good weekend.

That looks awesome!! Congrats on the weekend and result, especially considering the lead up to the event. Well done.

Thanks man, I worked hard over the last few days. Pleased to get a reasonable result. Wasn't many points separating the top 30! A couple extra Alpha's, a few seconds saved and I would have been in the top 10.

Looks like a great shoot. Love the run and gun up the gully. Thanks for posting, made my morning!

It's a pretty cool event. There was some longer range stuff too and even the shotgun stages were good. They had a run and gun shotgun stage in a creek bed. Was hectic.

Glad you had a fun weekend.

Yep, pretty enjoyable. Not as cold as forecast but we had the bonfire roaring anyway!

Australia back country and mountains. Cool drive.

Getting some hill climbs in there at the end and pumping rounds... intense!
