Ok, but Let's do nothing

So yet another tragedy and people are lining up to score political points. Of course, at times like this there is no better opportunity to divide and win a small battle for your side, but it's honestly disgusting and that is putting it lightly.

The challenge to me is that the solution is not found while adjusting one single issue. Which is to say, that to think that we can legislate our way towards a saner population is just futile and quite ridiculous. Yes, without a doubt there's a fringe element of americans whose love for guns is akin to a foot fetish, but that is not what is creating these situations by a long shot.

You see both sides of the isle profit in a way or another by making you side with them on this very delicate subject, and that might be all you need to know to understand all the political grandstanding happening at the moment. "If I say X i'll get more donations.... yaaayyy"

Our crisis is mental health

But this doesn't sell papers, it doesn't generate clicks and it certainly does not help politicians or the NRA make more money. I mean, think about the reasons why these people acted out, think about the fact that their "evil actions" were a response to something they believed in. They lost all hope, they felt trapped, depressed, angry... Should I continue?

We may have grown in leaps when it comes to medical advancements. The average lifespan is higher than it was just decades ago, but we seem to be headed towards a social timebomb that is going to explode very soon. As a matter of fact, the very fact that a Minister for Loneliness is something that exists, should give as a clue as to where we are at the moment as a society.

So what gives? What are we going to do?

If you ask our politicians, they will tell you a thousand things except for anything that is implementable or reasonable, but that's perfectly fine by them. They are making their living anyways.

I agree. I am one of those who believe that stronger anti-weapon legislation is more than overdue, but I also believe that more urgent measures must be taken to assess and improve people's mental health.

Even though the US has many great things that might provide happiness or confort to many people, this complex society is also full of issues that can generate lots of frustration and unhappiness.

Excellent review @meno and you are right, politicians do not care how we live, for them the main thing is their own well-being!

I am surprised that I haven’t seen much about it but I guess it is an impact of us becoming accustomed to these type of news of just ignoring news altogether, which is sad.

It is important in my estimation to note that the most egregious propagandists are those most responsible for the derangement of society. Allowing those most responsible for creating the problem to take authority to solve it is utterly foolish.

I have long lived by a motto that encourages me to think about things rather than just react out of desperation.

'Don't just do something. Sit there.'

Thanks!
