For those that want to unleash their poetic potential, here is how this contest works:

• Look at the prompt image and let yourself be inspired by it.

• Write a haiku related to the prompt image. The haiku should be composed by 3 verses with no title. The 1st verse should be 5 syllables long, the 2nd verse should be 7 syllables long, and the 3rd verse should be 5 syllables long again.

• If you aren’t confident with English enough, you can write your haiku in Spanish, French, or Italian as well. Sorry, we can’t read more languages… yet.

• Post the haiku on your blog or in the comment section below this post. If you make your own post, don’t forget to put the link to it in the comment section below!

Don't forget to use the tag:

The great and generous @bananafish rewards the faithful!

We already know the wise and fair @bananafish can be strengthened with offerings of delegation, and curation. Through this, the strength of many, shall become the strength of one. So in time, the strength of one, can in turn, become that of many. As the delegations grow, so does the value of the vote, so as the power grows, so it returns. Indeed, the mighty god will appreciate those who support it, and in doing so, support this entire contest. For many of us, it is already it's own reward. In a steemit full of vanishing contests, your support allows this one to keep going, and allows everyone to polish their writing skills with a challenging weekly work out (not to mention @curies's precious support and votes on the participants!). By coming together and sharing the work, we can empower the potassium rich deity to create an oceanic fruit-salad that never runs out!

So join the core, support the mission! Pledge your allegiance with your delegation, show your continued support through by joining the curation trail, and all will share in the glorious bounty of the @bananafish!

A special thank to @theironfelix, @raj808, @brisby, @maverickinvictus, @cyemela, @marcoriccardi, @calluna, @oivas, @anixio, @ntowl for their precious delegations, making this project a reality!

...And don't forget, every Wednesday:

Sort:

Blumine canvas with
Solitude of distant form
Mystery beacons

Are terrible puns considered as grounds for automatic disqualification? 😔

To me it looks original and the middle verse is quite remarkable.. bravo!

Thank you! Puzzled around this one for quite a bit, because I could come up with only one idea for the concept.

Considering there are several Japanese haiku made of onomatopoeia or jokes, not at all! 😉

Welcome to Mizu No Oto!

Thank you! I'll try to sneak in one whenever possible :D

I love it when there is a word that I don't know the meaning of (blumine), so thanks for that! What little I "know" of haiku comes from one week of class, Marco and F3nix (and google) so I can give you nothing in the way of feedback for form and whatnot. But, I can say that I like this and how the 's' sounds within your word choices make my mind think of a sea.

A precious haiku, thank you!

Here's mine! (what a nice feeling to participate to a contest yey!)

Alright brain fish. You asked for it. Now save me!!!

In my opinion, poetry saves! 😉

Oh good. I thought I was going to drown.

Tris correct the link pls

Oops. 😛 fixed

OK, @marcoriccardi and @bananafish. My first haiku for Steemit.
That was an interesting exercise :)
You're bound to get a bunch of entries because people love to write haiku.
My story for this week should go up tomorrow. Just about finished.

Fathomless water
Reaches toward gunmetal sky
Broken by red pole

The more entries, the better!
Thank you for your beautiful haiku, and good luck!

I appreciate that @marcoriccardi. Every time we exercise creative muscles in different ways we grow. I"m sure I'll write one every week. Also, have to read up on Basho again. Years ago I was introduced in a comparative literature course on classic Japanese literature. Unfortunately, I'm old enough to have things fall through the sieve of time :)

Check also Yosa Buson, Masaoka Shiki and my favorite, Kobayashi Issa.

Will do...actually see another blog taking shape. Such a rich topic. One of the most influential books in that course was Kagero Nikki (The Gossamer Years)by Anonymous. The course was great and I'll be happy to revisit the literature.

The haiku form comes quite a lot later than that book (I didn't know it, just checked!) The topic is very rich... In the same logo, I used an enso which is rich of zen symbolism.. we can start a haiku school if we like ;-)

Don't you love it when ideas grow :)

Ahh so much my friend, so much..

The first verse is my favorite.. also the idea of a gunmetal sky broken.. you're in the right direction my friend 😊

I'm not sure I liked the idea of introducing the word 'gun' into a haiku about the sea and sky, but my creative resources failed me--and it late at night :)

No worries, it has nothing to do with a firearm It clearly paints a grey woven sky. The color is a strong image.

Instead I think that it gives originality.. sometimes we need to be a bit puzzled..

Great haiku! (Be warned that this comes from a squirrel who has near to nil knowledge on the subject. 😁) I thought that your choice of 'gunmetal sky' was descriptive while serving a second purpose to prime my head to think of how a bullet can shatter something and then you closed with the red pole doing exactly that! 👏

I'd rather hear from a squirrel than most people--so that's a good start. The rest of your comment was delightful. I like the way your mind works. This is not a good sign, because I'm a very unusual person.
Can't upvote you now because I've been voting without discipline today. I promise to return.
Thanks for the

It's a great sign! I get such a kick when I find another unusual person that I gel with! (I wear my weirdness with pride!) 😁

Your haiku is very elegant. Description of the instant, with a subtle and bare beauty...

Thank you!

I LOVE your bananafish haiku @Raj808!

Here's my submission for this week. 🍁

The water is still.
Deep and blue and cold it cries
out to me. I’m alone.

Yours is my favorite this time around! Personally, I'm not much for form and in the end I think a piece is all about what gives me the feels and this haiku does it. I didn't even consider looking at the photo from the perspective of the solitary red pole surrounded by cold deep water. 😍

Thank you for this haiku! You caught the sad side of the image, there are other interpretation but this is
without a doubt an element very present in it. ;)

Intense, well done Gaby!

Thank you. My first haiku. I think this contest is going to be fun.
