We made friends with SEALS

in #hawaii6 years ago (edited)

This weekend we decided to sack our weekly hike and go for some water based activities instead.
After sticking our kayaks in the back of our truck we headed out to Na Mokulua (or the Twin Islands) off Kaiula Beach.
It was VERYY windy.

We set off on our kayaks (after capsizing after approximately 15 seconds). Luckily we had packed our lunch and valuables in waterproof bags. And luckily our reef shoes took most of the blow. RIP ankle skin.

There are two different water directions between the islands. Waves coming from your left, and waves coming from your right. And they meet in the middle - right where you are!
After braving the waves and impressively not capsizing for a second time we landed on the beach to join a sleeping mama seal and a sleeping baby seal. (Who wouldn't stop sneezing!! Bless you, little guy!)

We headed around the island, set up our picnic, and then paddled back a few hours later!

SUCH A FUN DAY! Would highly recommend going if you are in Hawaii.
But note not to go on a Sunday unless you live in Hawaii as you will get a fine if you are a tourist and rent a kayak. And you DEFINITELY need reef shoes. We bought ours for only $13.

See you in my next post!

Long time no see!
Welcome back!
That’s an amazing place you have chosen to live to :)

Life kinda got in the way! But happy to be back! And happy to be living in Hawaii :)

OMG, the size of that seal, we saw a bunch in California, but from a little bit of a distance, I don't think they were nearly that big!LL9A1158.jpg

Their little faces are so cute
