Skilfullness of a phlebotomist or a nurse: two painful experiences

in #health-status6 years ago (edited)

Last two days I am in a hospital, neither as a patient nor a doctor. I am in this hospital as an attendant of my wife who is taking blood transfusion for low Hb. She will undergo an elective laparoscopic ovarian cysts removal in the next week In Sha Allah.

These two days it occurred to me that all the nurses and phlebotomist are not trained enough to do what they are supposed to do. Yesterday, one nurse pricked 3 times to insert a cannula in my wife's hand who was first time in her life taking a cannula. Definitely she was afraid and the fear raised many folds due to incompetency of the nurse. She tried two times and failed. Later, another nurse came and rescued her.
Similar thing happened to my second blood donor. The phlebotomist took 3 attempts to take a full bag of blood. Blood bag needles are wider in diameter than the needles come with syringe. My donor was pricked 3 time with that scary needle!

I don't know about other countries but in my country, a lots of private clinics are getting approval to run but they don't have skilled staffs. Every private clinic or hospital are not getting graduated nurses or phlebotomist. As a result, patients and patient parties are suffering.

What about your country?
