Blood donation of a noble task, no doubt. You are saving a life or helping a needy person. But is that all? Aren't you getting any benefit in return? Yes! You are getting something in return which may save your life in future.

When you are donating blood, around 400ml-450ml of blood is draining out of your body. For the first time of your life, you might feel some dizziness after donation. It is natural because sudden loss of that amount of blood was new to your body. Body wasn't prepared for the loss.
In the subsequent time, when you donated, you didn't feel (usually) the dizziness like the first time. Why was that? Because the body had one previous experience of losing blood, and adjusted the sudden loss pretty quick.

You kept donating blood at a frequent intervals (you can donate blood in every 4 months without any side effects). And your body is now well familiar with the situation. Your all vital organs can cope the reduced blood volume unlike the organs of a person who has never donated blood.

Now! Suppose you are in a serious road traffic accident with open injury on different parts of your body. There are active bleeding from your injured sites. Your chance of survival is better in comparison with another victim with similar injury. Why? Your vital organs are familiar with sudden blood loss situation. Your body will keep fighting and if help arrive soon you may survive.
