How do you sleep?

On your back, stomach, or side? If you sleep on your side you may want to consider which side you sleep on for health reasons. This article states that sleeping on your left side is better for your health according to Dr. John Douillard. Here are the article's 7 reasons and why:

  1. Normal Heart Function
Normally, the left side of your heart pumps blood towards your body. So, if you sleep on left side you make the heart easier to perform properly even when you sleep. In addition it helps for better circulation and decrease in varicose veins are two major benefits of left-side sleeping. According to the vein clinic, 'if you have various veins, it’s a good idea to sleep on your left side as it improves circulation by reducing pressure on your vena cava, located on the right side of the body'.
  2. Benecial for Pregnant Women
It will be little hard to choose to sleep on the left side during the pregnancy. You may have heard about sleeping on your left side when you are pregnant is good, but you may not have known why. Sleeping on the left side is mainly benefited for the last trimester and it can help boost better circulation of blood for mom and baby. It also helps to save the liver from unwanted weight by making easier to do its various performances.
  3. Improves Drainage of the Lymphatic System
The left side of the body is the dominant lymphatic side, and while you’re sleeping on the left side, your body will have more time to filter toxins, lymph fluid and waste. According to the experts, this system drains into the thoracic duct placed on the left side.If you sleep on left side it gathers protein that escaped the cells and you can aid to bring them to where they are supposed to be.
  4. Help the Liver Not to Congest
If you sleep on the right side, the liver can become congested when you sleep for hours and the liver is on the right side of our body. If you sleep on the left side you can keep substances and toxins and
neutralize by the liver before being moved out of your body or collected in the liver
  5. Improved Function of the Spleen
The spleen is an organ that will reap the benefits if you sleep on your left side. It is located in the left side of your body. According to John Douillard, 'when you lay on the left side, drainage back to the spleen is once again helped and made easier by gravity'.
  6. Prevent Heartburn
If you are suffering from gastroesophageal reflux disease or acid reflux you should not sleep on right side. When you are in this situation, your stomach is placed below the cardiac sphincter. The cardiac sphincter connects the esophagus to the stomach. If you sleep on the left side the contents found in the stomach doesn’t flow into the esophagus. If you sleep on the left side it can relieve the heartburn symptoms, while right-side sleeping makes them worse.
  7. Boost the Gut to Help Get Rid of Waste Products
An ileocecal valve is a place on your left side where the junction of the large intestine and small intestine is located. When you sleep on the left side it can help to boost the proper elimination of the waste products and it also helps the waste products to transfer from the small intestine to the large. Finally, it allows gravity to do its work and boost regular bowel moment

I just thought this information was interesting, but whether all of it is really the healthiest is uncertain. I tend to sleep all different ways, and I know it does feel better if I'm still digesting to lie on my left side. For me, it can be difficult because my arm tends to go numb if I sleep for a long period of time that way. How about you guy, what do you think? How do you guys sleep?

In first aid training, it is called the recovery position. Makes sense that it is also the best position to sleep.

I usually switch sides throughout the night, but I've known the left side is better for you.

I've had poor sleeping patterns before, unable to get comfortable, it really drains your energy. It is good logic to sleep on your left side though, it's something I do try to do at times.

Nice, I'm doing something right! Lol

Good to know. I usually fall asleep on my left
