Taking Time Out

Life can be overwhelming at times. Lately I feel like I’m trying to juggle so much and I’m failing. Everything is smashing to the ground and I’m near a breaking point. I need to learn how to cope better. I feel as though I’m a decent problem solver but sometimes there is just that point where I don’t see an answer or a solution. It’s in these moments that I have to take a time out from life.

Sometimes I’ll just go see a movie by myself. Sometimes I’ll go grab a bite. Sometimes I’ll write. Some days I get a massage. Today I decided to get a massage.

I’m a member of Hand & Stone which is a chain and they are lovely. Tranquil music, great aromas, and a soft touch. It makes me fall asleep and I catch myself snoring often. They usually book up quickly so some days I just go to the mall to the massage place there. That’s where I am at this moment.

This place does an absolutely killer foot massage. They have insanely strong hands and I always feel lighter on my feet after I leave. Their regular massages are also fantastic. While I enjoy the tranquil relaxing massages of H&S, I come here to hurt a bit. These folks work deep into me which is what I need most of the time.

Getting massages is also one of the only places that my mind fully relaxes and kinda...turns off. Doing what I’m doing right now is basically defeating the purpose a bit as I usually like just tuning out a bit. I feel it’s important as it allows me to recharge to a smalll degree. I just wanted to share this moment with some of you as I’m sure I’m not the only one here who feels lost and needs help at times.

I feel it’s important to sometimes take a moment out for myself. Maybe it’s selfish, but I find I need these moments to help keep me running properly. My mental and physical well being both depend on it.

What do you do for yourself? Do you get massages? Do you go fishing in your favorite spot? What’s helps you cope and recharge?

So glad you found something that helps you. I have a hard time truly relaxing to be honest. My mind is always going. I used to be an avid motorcyclist and it actually helped me with mental calmness because it requires such focus it's like therapy after a long ride. But I don't ride anymore and haven't found an activity that gives that kind of effect. I've tried meditation but end up resentful, like it's forced relaxing, and I'm too conscious of trying to relax if that makes sense lol

Yeah it was kinda a blessing that I found that massage can help me not only feel a bit better physically, but mentally as well. It literally makes the world around me disappear. Have you ever gotten one? Like a real one at a spa ?

No I have never had a massage. I don't care for strangers touching me but I would be willing to try it.

Oh my god it’s the best. Lol. i just zone out and it totally helps. I get not wanting to be touched though. That’s actually very common. I’ve heard plenty of folks say that when the topic comes up so you are t alone there. I’d still recommend trying it once at a real legit spa before writing it off though. If I didn’t give it a shot way back when, I’d never know just how much it helps me recharge.

Not at all. You just need to recharge. Massage is your version of meditation, and it's probably even more de-stressing, as it involves human contact.

Usually my way of de-stressing is just to kid around, make funny, be playful, tell jokes, even bad ones, as quick as I can.

I love the Eric Idle Monty Python song lyric "Always look on the bright side of death." It makes no sense of course, but it puts life into perspective, that even the very worst thing can provide a laugh or two. :)

Yeah it kinda just makes me tune everything out. It’s the only time in my life that happens sadly. It usually takes me a few minutes in but then it’s total tranquility.
