Plasmodium having a date with my LIVER

in #health6 years ago (edited)

It is a nightmare for a student waking up to know he has exams tomorrow, it becomes worse when he has exams but then knows he is not near prepared
But that is even better, imagine not being prepared, and just finding out you are sick...

Painful isn't it, now get this..

That was the beginning of my problems, scaled through two papers, with malaria or possibly typhoid symptoms, Artemissinin combination therapy (ACTs) and antibiotics were being popped into my mouth routinely... Still remember the awful taste

And i wasn't getting better!

Felt like crap every hour, and still had to read

Turns out i did have malaria, but the ACTs were not working, so the doctor (God bless this dude) suggested that the parasites were hiding in my liver or something like that... So he gave me quinine and the little bastards were killed just in time for my next paper...

On a more serious note this is my point;

Recent research ( by Dr. Heussler and others)has found that parasites kill the liver cell they occupy and dislodge it. The infected cells then squeeze through tiny gaps in the walls of blood vessels in the liver.

They thus release merosomes which convey the pathogenicity of the parasite, thus producing the symptoms we know so well.

ACTs have the job of killing the parasites circulating in your blood, but what happens when the little things set up shop in your liver that is when drugs like quinine come in.

Tis kind of scary to know that these parasites are that good, i mean hiding out in my liver?...

And do you know that they can take a vacation there?, i mean residing there for sometime before showing true colors, and they can be there for up to a year!...

We call it relapse malaria, a topic for another time...

What is the moral of this post, "always be prepared for your exams", cause damn haven't seen results yet, but i fear it might not be too pretty.

Thank you for your time reading this, dont forget to upvote...

Hope you enjoyed it..

Ps: gonna be teaching about drugs in a unique beautiful way, cause i am a pharmacist in training, tis kinda like my thing...
