Hey everyone. This will be the last post of my series of whole foods that are healthy for your brain. We are using food as our medicine. So far on the list we have Cocoa, Sardines, Yogurt, Spinach, and today we will add a 5th food. Be sure to go back and check out my prior posts to learn more. Now lets get to today's food for a healthy brain...

Today's food for our brain health is Turmeric. Turmeric is an inflammation fighter. The bright yellow spice contains curcumin, which is a compound with anti-inflammatory properties that has been shown to improve behavior and cognition in people with Alzheimer's disease. Curcumin works by preventing the formation of plaques. Plaques are clusters of sticky proteins that build up between nerve cells and impair brain function. Curcumin has also been shown to lessen impairment in patients with traumatic brain injury and stimulate new brain cell production. It can also be used to help treat depression.

You can try adding more turmeric to your daily diet simply by adding it to your morning eggs or by sprinkling over your favorite stir-fry recipe. You may even notice that taking turmeric daily helps with your memory. Be sure to take turmeric with some black pepper to help the body better absorb the curcumin.

I always add turmeric when I make eggs, it gives them a great flavor. I've used it as a seasoning for many years as its in adobo, but since learning of its anti-inflammatory properties a few years ago, I've been using it more by itself.

I've been doing the same. It has definitely helped me with joint pain. Thanks for sharing.
