Erosion | Water Hazard and Erosion control

in #health6 years ago (edited)

Hi everyone, it been raining here in Ita Alamu Area of Ilorin, kwara state, Nigeria. I was in an area where the rain caught me and I have to step aside for the rain to stop a bit. So I saw this powerful erosion coming through the open source water-way and through the main road it really caught me on the right side so I have to share this. Here is what I observed and what I saw to that my friends can experience what we are passing through anything there is a down pour of rain.

Here is a type of erosion which washes away the topmost layer of the soil leaving the soil surface with poor top layer which causes more water runoff.

Watch this water runoff.

Managing erosion in urban areas

I have seen this type of erosion in my first photo several times, so I want to discuss how to manage erosion in cities. For countries that grow rapidly and keep having this type of erosion this can really work for them.

The following approaches will help reduce erosion on development sites and land.

(1) change the minimum area during the excavation.

(2) where possible, diverting rainwater around the workplace and in other modified areas.

(3) Install sediment barriers (eg sediment fences or lawn buffer strips) downhill from the construction site to filter large sediments.

(4) restrict vehicle access to an entry point where possible. Gravity access point will allow everyone access to weather conditions and minimize erosion.

(5) Connect a temporary or permanent solution to a rainwater system before placing the roof on all site reservations and behind a sediment barrier.

(6) close all open areas as soon as possible after completing downspout construction.

For those of us who uses fire regular hear this.

Fire

Fire is very useful for controlling woody weeds very important but it needs to be managed carefully, not by putting fire anywhere you see dry pastures. Regular burning of pastures will further reduce ground cover and promote runoff and erosion

Erosion control in agricultural land

cultivation

Agricultural conservation practices that maintain land cover include minimum processing and zero practices. Today, during the fallow season, farmers use plowing tools that kill weeds without burying stubble and weed killers to minimize the plowing frequency.

Contour benches and cultivation of strips

The outflow concentration is managed by structural measures such as contour banks in the upper zones or stripe crops on the floodplains. These systems provide for a total change in the way a given farm.

The outflow systems should be carefully planned. The flow between objects and between roads and tracks must be coordinated and adapted to the people affected by the changes.

Proof of my write up.
