True beauty IS radiant health, the kind that glows invincibly from some magical force within a fit and capable body and sharp, intelligent mind. It is the shining divine Spirit that animates life; it is glorious inspiration itself.

I believe everyone can enhance or unearth their natural beauty by loving themselves fully and unconditionally...and by shaking off the dust that settles in from unhealthy habits.

TRUE health is very easy to achieve, maintain, and protect! Beauty is a fantastic side effect of embodied health.

Here are 4 priorities for living a healthy and beautiful life:


1. Breathing

The importance of oxygen cannot be overstated, but most people aren't getting enough of it! Oxygen is the molecule that breaks down and flushes toxins from the body. Commonly, people breathe hurried, shallow breaths that lead to decreased vitality and increased disease. Of all the things you can do, changing the breath can have the most significant impact on improving health. EVERYTHING is better when you take a deep breath!

Try breathing in to the count of 8, noticing the pause at the top of the breath, then exhaling to the count of 8, and once again noticing the pause at the bottom. Imagine filling your lungs completely, pulling air down into your torso, and exhaling fully for maximum satisfaction. Practice for a few minutes a day and not only will you be healthier and more radiant, but you will be more peaceful too!

2. Hydration

A well hydrated body is a healthy body, and a dehydrated body is a weak and aging body. Water regulates body temperature, transports nutrients, yields glowing skin, flushes waste products through sweat and urine, moistens tissues and lubricates joints, and is fundamental to digestion and metabolism. These are just a few of its properties in the body! It is vital to drink enough clean, fresh water every day. "Enough" may be half to 1 gallon every day. If you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated!

3. Rest

Quality rest is the body's time to rejuvenate and repair itself. It should be a priority in a life of thrival. A well rested body functions much better than one that is sleep deprived; senses are heightened and response times are lowered. How much sleep a person needs depends greatly on their lifestyle and level of activity. A good rule of thumb is that if we're waking up tired, then we're doing ourselves a great disservice. One's day can easily be structured around getting enough high quality, restful sleep.

4. Manage Stress

Chronic stress is a silent killer. Most modern humans exist in a state of constant stress in which their nervous systems are steadily releasing a stream of chemicals that cause physical damage to their bodies. We have grown so accustomed to it, we don't even notice anymore! But the heart notices; the immune system notices. Health is severely limited under chronic stress. Thankfully, enjoyable activities like meditation and yoga can switch off the stress response and protect the body from harm.

I believe these 4 factors to be more important than the food we eat or exercise we engage, although those are valuable inputs for a healthy and beautiful life as well. Wonderful news is that these basic priorities are also free and accessible at any time!

Health is fundamental to an awesome life, and it is a natural extension of loving yourself. Honor yourself as your beloved, and of course you will do all that you can to take great care of your temple! Beauty is the resultant glow.
