What food should a Typhoid patient eat

Eight days of treatment at the hospital and my brother seems to be in good health now. If everything goes right, he will be discharged tomorrow! :D

He was diagnosed with Typhoid and was admitted to the hospital 8 days ago.

Typhoid is an infection caused by Salmonella bacteria. It usually affects the intestines and is caused due to consumption of contaminated food or drinks.

What should you eat when you're diagnosed with Typhoid?

Eat high calorie foods:

Body's metabolic rate is higher during fever which means more tissues are being broken down. So, the diet should provide enough proteins and nutrients to replenish the body.

Intake sufficient fluids:

The body loses a lot of water due to diarrhea and fever causing dehydration. It is advised to have 6 - 8 glasses of water everyday.

Food items:

During initial stages, it is advised to take mostly fluid intakes like tender coconut water, fruit juices, butter milk, barley water, lime water and vegetable soups.

Later move on to consuming solid food depending on the tolerance of the body. This is called as progressive diet plan.

Have fruits like bananas, watermelon, grapes, apricots, Apple, Pear.

Food items that are digested easily should be consumed like boiled rice, baked potato, yoghurt.

Indian food like Idli Sambar, Dosa Chutney, Rice-Dal can be consumed.

When the disease gets cured, have a protein rich diet like eggs to gain back the muscles and recover your body.

Also, avoid outside food, oily food and the heavy food that takes a lot of energy to digest

These were some foods my brother had during his recovery process.
