Must do this summer: A Health Blog

in #healthblog6 years ago

Summer is officially in the Philippines. Foreigners may see it as a good thing but us Filipinos will know it's not all a-okay.

Sure, the beach photos are tending ,people are having some sunny and bright photos but that's only when you have a weekend get away or an out of town trip.

But what about the everyday struggle in this hot months?

24 degrees in the UK is already considered hot, here it may be considered as the temperature for the Christmas season. And it's said it will get hotter this month.

The heat is excruciating. the dust, pollution and heavy traffic makes it much worse. Not all people can afford to have an air conditioner or even keep it on for the whole day.

People tends to be sick and some lacks sleep due to being uncomfortable while sleeping, especially those who sleeps during the day for a night duty.

To prevent or at least lessen its harmful effects, I've compiled up some tips I know and I would like to share it to you.

1. Drink a lot of water

Not just any fluid but water or the one's formulated to hydrate you like pocari sweat or gatorade. Prioritize this than soft drinks or iced teas to avoid dehydration that may cause heat stroke.

2. Apply sunscreen always

As per this article , it is important to use a sunscreen lotion of at least SPF 30 in order to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. For sensitive skin, a mineral-based sunscreen is best. Don’t sit in the sun in peak hours between 10am and 4pm in order to minimize UV radiation. If you are planning to be out in the sun for a long period of time, reapply suncream every two to three hours.

Also don't forget to use your trusty umbrellas and sun glasses. :)

3. Eat/drink fruit based food/drinks

Making fruit shakes and smoothies not only freshens you up but it's another healthy drink you can consume aside from water. Also fruits such as watermelon, melons, cucumber, pineapple, banana and more are very good for summer times. And they are in season too so they will be cheaper.

4. Use hydrating lotion and exfoliate

Too much heat will damage your skin and makes it too dry. Don't forget to apply lotions especially formulated for dry skin or UV rays protection. Also dryness will trigger more dead skin cells so do a light scrub or exfoliate to remove those. You can also make your own home made scrub from natural and organic ingredients like an oatmeal scrub for a more natural and healthier outcome.

5. Take care of your hair

Mostly for women, our hair gets damaged by too much heat. So lessen or completely avoid ironing and using hair dryers as much as you can. Towel dry your hair and don't forget to use some protective serum/mouse. Use conditioner to keep the hair healthy.

These basically sums up my list. But if you know more ways you can always comment below.
