Symmetry can on go so far with food because no single dish is ever the same. In Chinese cooking, we like to use embellishments to incite appetite. We understand that visual stimuli is important and thus we decorate with various colours. You'll probably notice that that I've used some herbs on my chicken dish to frame it. Green contrasts nicely with the brown and white but compliments the Egg and Cucumber dish beside it.

Pork belly is a staple dish in pretty much all regions of China and resembles a slice of a rock. Little needs to be done to it visually because it is already quite striking as it is.

Finally, the flowers on the table create a sense of calmness. Feng shui proponents will understand that the flowers essentially overlook the food and ward off the negative energy which may harbour from outside factors.
