This is a pear-shaped fruit with a mild taste. It can be eaten raw or cooked. It is green in color and somewhat watery like cucumber. It has crispiness that is why it is better to half cooked it to keep the crispiness.

Sayote here in the Philippines is regarded as a vegetable more than as a fruit. It is cooked in dishes together with other vegetables such as pansit bihon and chopseuy. It is also good in salads. Because of its mild taste, it is easily paired with any other ingredient.

Back when I was in Baguio, there is rapidly growing sayote at the backyard of my sister's house. It just grows by itself. It bears fruits without being taken care of or monitored. Because of that, we have supply of sayote all year round which we cooked mostly as an ingredient for our tinola.
