Hi friends, steemers, today we are going to talk about bees!
Bees are crucial insects for pollination, some 20,000 registered species are known but it is believed that there are many more, with different characteristics both phenotypically and behavior, it is said that you can find bees in all parts of the world except Antarctica since the cold does not allow them to live there.
The phenotypic changes can vary in size, wing design, color, shape of jaws, legs and corbicula (space in the hind legs that reserves pollen) all these characteristics based on their adult phase.
Although it may not seem like it, not all bees live in swarms with a queen.
There are species that place their eggs in the wood, or eat leaves, in this case, the female bees are all fertile and do all the work to take care of the young, that is, since there is no group of bees working, they take care of to create a small fortress for their young, they usually gather nectar and pollen to make a pasty mixture that later becomes nests.
We can also find some that meet only in spring with the fertilized queen, to care for the young and then separate (in some cases the queen dies).
The most common is a swarm gathered in a honeycomb with a division of work with respect to food or breeding care, usually in this type of behavior the shape of the bee varies depending on its role in the hive.
Another curious fact is that bees only sting as a defense method of their honeycomb or swarm, because when they sting they leave their sting stuck to the skin of the being that threatens them and this is connected to their digestive tract, muscles and nerves, that is to say it is lethal for them.
This is why to avoid both stings and the deaths of worker bees beekeepers release smoke around the honeycomb, this unleashes a warning signal among all bees that induces them to fill as much honey as possible to flee, thinking that everything is a beehive fire, because they are so heavy, they can not attack, so they can be handled safely for humans and friendly with the hive.
So when you see a bee, please just think you're working to feed baby bees and do not kill them!
