How often do you get down-spirited and how do you deal with it?

in #help6 years ago

Do you ever feel like you can't continue anymore? How often does that happen? I believe the advancements the world is making is driving more and more people into depression. Thinking of what next to do with your life seems to be a major issue bothering the lot.when you think of such thinks and answers seem to not avail themselves, how do you cope?

We are humans and at times, we go through experiences that makes us doubt our core beliefs. Have you ever had such an episode? How did you overcome it? Or, you are still leaving with it. I would love to hear your thoughts on how to stay stong during threatening situations.

hmm i get down spirited most of the time, or depressed, but then i look at the blessings in my life , or when everything seems like its not gonna occur something good comes out from it and i just think that nothing is ever impossible, things become impossible when we give up so im like okay , patience with time and preservance i can overcome this .

That is a wonderful approach. I will be sure to keep it in mind. Thanks for sharing your view @moonprincess

Well, from my perspective, finding a source of motivation could be a breakthrough. Basically, being motivated through novels, articles, others experiences and so on can be very helpful.

Hi @kwakumax My friend Mari committed suicide during a depression the past mont. There were family members who knew about it in the community but no one ever said a word. The social isolation and stigma they suffer can have long lasting effects including clinical depression and in some cases, suicidal thoughts.

Depending on the type and severity of depression, different levels of treatment are likely to be appropriate. While urgent or severe cases may require medical intervention and possibly hospitalisation, less severe cases may simply require medical monitoring, complemented with counselling and self help strategies. Emotional symptoms of depression include feeling sad, hopeless or depressed most of the time; loss of interest or pleasure in normal activities; becoming socially withdrawn from friends and family; feelings of worthlessness or guilt; crying for no apparent reason.

In this case there is another solution for depression: changing your thoughts. If it is difficult to change anything else, you can at least change your view of a situation. A typical characteristic of depression is a negative flurry of thoughts, which keeps going through your head. A solution for depression could therefore be to get out of these thoughts by focussing on your body instead. This can be done by doing something physical. An example could be going for a walk.

The causes of depression are not fully understood. However, a combination of biological, genetic, psychological and social factors can contribute to its development. People who have a history of depression among close family members may have an increased risk of developing depression due to genetic factors. People with personalities characterised by low self esteem, perfectionism, self criticism or high levels of sensitivity may also be more prone to developing depression.

Have a nice Saturday
I'm wishing you success and growth, and happiness.
A hug

hey @euriguiwi2018, thanks for the clarification. It is a shame what is happening in our societies these days. People rarely check up on one another anymore even within families but i think i get your point also. I wish you well in all your do as well.

Thank you very much @kwakumax We don't mean to diminish the pain someone who is depressed might experience. But tears are healthy. Sadness doesn't always need treatment. And it's important to remember that the pain muscle and the joy muscle are the same. If you can't feel one, you won't feel the other.

Sometimes depression is a symptom of something circumstantial in the life, rather than biochemical imbalances.

On the contrary, it is indifference or failure to intervene that do the real damage.

Best wishes to you and your family!!

This is a very difficult question. Depression have various degrees. Is it 'just' a week (or more) feeling bad or really depressed.
Depression(s) is a disease, not just a mood to stay strong in. Depression makes you feel black, real black inside. A hole you can't understand and makes you feel like nothing. It paralyzes you and your life.

So when you feel down, really down is different than feeling depressed.

So my answer to your question is...... if you're feeling down ....
Seek help or do a course, for instance mindfulness or something else you like. Don't stop doing things you always liked.

When you're depressed...... definitely seek help !!

i will take you up on these ideas

No problem if I can be of any help !

Personally I have my moments when I feel down spirited and depressed. This issue of depression is vital to ones mental and logical state and if not adequately handled can affect other area and can all increase to one having suicidal thoughts. This feeling is common to man but how it's handled is what seperates us.in my moments I try to talk to myself and find encouragement but if it doesnt work I seek external help by talking to a friend, a family member, a mentor, or a counselor. I've noticed that speaking out in such times goes a long way. Thanks

Hi, great post.

I found the solution (at least until now) in making a single big decision:

When I was doing the research for my phd I found my personal low-point. A colleague told me there would be two types of personalities. Beginners who are starting over and over again without finishing a single thing and finishers who never quit. I chose to be a finisher and never changed on that. It has always kept me up.

If i get the message right, what you mean is those who don't complete projects they start or leave them halfway are those who suffer a lot from depression right?

I exercise to keep my mood up

For me, it seems to only work when i am exercising. I go back straight into that mood when i am done.

A very nice question addressed @kwakumax. For me the answer is never quitting and keeping patience in hard times because night doesn't last forever , dawn has to follow. Hence the saying" winners never quit and quitters never win" can rightly be the answer from my side. By the way very different and appreciated post.

Nice suggestion. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Sadly truth Depression hit everyone , Some point in my life that feeling hopeless and depressed with problems most of the time I win with the battle but sometimes theres a fight that the best solution is to give up . Acceptance, learn and move on . It is very hard but I must move on and work out with my happiness and i know that its start from within . It helps to count my blessings , Pray
for guidance from our creator .and Also I visit nice places and that really helps alot.

Thanks for the tip @mjtravel

@kwakumax it's words. Words are more powerful than nuclear weapons. I'm often down spirited by negative words thrown at me. And the solution is often the same, I reflect on how my life has improved, and build a positive self esteem, and let go.

That is amazing to hear. Thanks for sharing your view on this issue @tobah

It's my own pleasure dear @kwakumax
