  • Devices have changed a lot but many of the things we use today some sort of early form or similar but more basic invention can be contributed to its creation.

  • The power we have as human beings to create and recreate is absolutely extraordinary and it is probably one of our greatest strengths as a species.

Are you ready to take a trip down memory lane? Did you ever used to own a discman? What about a BOOMBOX? Did you ever rely on a trusty pager to stay in touch with friends or correspond with co-workers?

If you answered yes for any of those questions then this article should have something to peak your interest. The gadgets of the past hold a sort of wonder. A window into a different world, albeit only slightly different. Some are born without awareness of the ancient ancestral gadgets of their grandparents time. Even a single generation can sometimes be enough to wipe out a technology completely!

It is true that most of the technologies that we have used in the past have been made obsolete by newer and more advanced technology that we use today, but sometimes we can see a little glimmer of them in the new and modern devices we use today.

If you hear what I'm saying... You'll have fond memories, yah, the joys and the excitement of it all?!

Well, we have not a moment to waste, lets get going shall we?

Let me unveil a few more magnificent gadgets of the past!

Old timers used to play records, the younger generations moved onto cassettes...

Eventually we got our act together as a species and moved from basic tape storage systems towards laser based compact discs!

The Walkman was soon replaced by the Discman and a whole new tech revolution was kicked off as a result.

Two years after the mass production of the Compact Disc, Sony released its portable player for it. While they were popular with audiophiles, who appreciated the quality of recording.

It wasn't all smooth sailing though as you could imagine, in fact, earlier Discmans often skipped and they didn’t allow for “mix tapes” until it became possible for computers to “burn” CD’s.

Eventually they really did get their act together. Sony successfully released better versions of its popular Discman. Mega Bass and AVLS (Automatic Volume Limiter System) technology helped deliver high-quality audio, while the hold and anti-shock protection features kept music playback running without any hiccups. How many of these did you run through?

Compact disc (CD) is a digital optical disc data storage format that was co-developed by Philips and Sony and released in 1982. The format was originally developed to store and play only sound recordings (CD-DA) but was later adapted for storage of data (CD-ROM).

Several other formats were further derived from these, including write-once audio and data storage (CD-R), rewritable media (CD-RW), Video Compact Disc (VCD), Super Video Compact Disc (SVCD), Photo CD, PictureCD, CD-i, and Enhanced Music CD. The first commercially available audio CD player, the Sony CDP-101, was released October 1982 in Japan.

The fact of the matter is that Philips and Sony collaborated to create something that completely changed the world when it comes to data storage and music distribution. I had one of the early CD Burners and boy did I love it!

Without this amazing new technology DVDs and what was to come after may have turned out much differently!

I had one of these! Does that make me a dinosaur?? It wasn't easy to keep in touch with friends back in the day. No smartphones, cellphones, social media... Can you even imagine??

Pagers were commonly used from the seventies to the nineties, when widespread adoption of cell phones rendered them obsolete for mass market use. They are still used by emergency responders as they are not subject to network outages or similar disruptions in communication.

A pager (also known as a beeper) is a wireless telecommunications device that receives and displays alphanumeric or voice messages. One-way pagers can only receive messages, while response pagers and two-way pagers can also acknowledge, reply to, and originate messages using an internal transmitter.[1]

Pagers operate as part of a paging system which includes one or more fixed transmitters (or in the case of response pagers and two-way pagers, one or more base stations), as well as a number of pagers carried by mobile users. These systems can range from a restaurant system with a single low-power transmitter, to a nationwide system with thousands of high-power base stations.

Not just for drug dealers, this device helped people co-ordinate activities / meetings and jam sessions. This device was the beginning of a movement, a human obsession with interconnectedness!

Can you imagine having one of these hanging from your belt day in and day out?

So what would you do when you were on the go and your friend paged you?

It is simple... Find a payphone!

This is almost comical to think of in this day and age but having a pager was cool! I remember getting one and being so happy to have this new and exciting ability. Talking to a girl and want to impress her? Give her your pager number!

Oh how far we have come?!

One final device certainly deserves honorable mention... One of these bad boys combined with a Sony Walkman was sufficient entertainment for an afternoon assuming it was full of Cheech and Chong skits or packed with some of Adam Sandler's greatest works...

The compact cassette found its first use as a transcription method but its users quickly realized that they could use it to record music and make “mix tapes”.

The Compact Audio Cassette (CAC) or Musicassette (MC), also commonly called the cassette tape or simply tape or cassette, is an analog magnetic tape recording format for audio recording and playback. Released by Philips in 1963, it has been developed in Hasselt, Belgium.[2] Compact cassettes come in two forms, either already containing content as a prerecorded cassette, or as a fully recordable "blank" cassette. Both forms are reversible by the user.[3]

To think that the mini-ipod shuffle is just a reinvention of the cassette tape albeit in a much more robust form offering hundreds of hours of playback and functionality and all this came from standing on the shoulders of giants!

The world is directed by dreamers that act upon their dreams and make them reality.

Don't be afraid to set a goal and go after it!

I want to know what my fellow @ADSactly society members think about these inventions!

Here's a chance for the @ADSactly community to leave their thoughts and opinions on this topic. Don't hold back, contribute something and take advantage of the social benefits of our thriving community.

Thanks for reading.

I loved the walkman !! I had one when I was small, it was big and yellow with its earplugs that hurt too much and the turning and turning of the cassette to rewind (face A and face B lol)! Then, teen I had my first discman, it was already a great progress at the time lol. Now, I admit that my Ipod is much more convenient and less cumbersome. But the walkman remains a souvenir of my childhood and thank you for this little nostalgic return.

I had a gameboy, a walkman, a discman, a CD burner, a pager, a Motorola razr and all sorts of other gadgets.

Miss my nintendo, my sega genesis, my PS1 and PS2...

Like seriously we've gone or come a long way, I can hardly remember most of this devices or I don't even know them at all. Lol.
What's the discman all about Mehn, I can hardly imagine how its working principles would look like, well, since I had no idea of what if feels like to use it, what more can I say. I'll really love to use it someday. seriously technology has improved over the past few years.
Pagers??, come on, why wasn't I born in the nineties, how would I look in a white package shirt, blue trouser, well polished black shoe and my pager. Hahaha, I would steal your girl from you before the twinkle of an eye. Well I wasn't able to use pager but thanks for sharing this, Atleast I no what a pager is and it uses, knowledge level has been upgraded, Hahaha.
Dear oh dear, the compound cassette was damn cool. I used it and people still use it in some local areas here. Can u remember when you have a particular track you love so much, after listening to it, do you remember how you rewind it back to some extent with your imagination saying, yes, yes, it's here, stop right away. Hahaha.
Over here, the cassette plays a very huge impact from what it was made for. We use does round thing inside it for some sort of Football, if you'll understand sha.

Here is a picture prove. Hahaha

Yah buddy! The cassette actually survived quite a long time. I know what you mean about rewinding to find your jam. Brings back good memories!

Ohh good..these are the biggest evolution in the music industry...i remeber my days when i had argument with my dad to get me a "walk.man." that cassete player who runs pretty music just near to ear....the craze was to look cool with headphone on head and listening some songs...and bicycling all the way on the streets. I think i still have it somewhers in the cubbard
How soon the time evolved ...and the way of listening to music.

Pager is something which is very short lived...i think it was kind of digital telegram....just send the messge through phone and get encrypted message on your device. It was very rapidly taken over by those big motorola handset which was launched in India and soon Nokia came in...
Technologys is making a fast pace...and making life easier with each advancement.
Thanks @techblogger for taking me to the down lane of these revolution..in music and also in various spehere of technology.

I always know that when I read a post of yours, @techblogger, I'm going to find technological treasures or I'm going to travel back in time. This post reminded me of my childhood when my mom would ask me to change the cassette while she did the housework. Sometimes they got stuck in the player and we had to take it out carefully so as not to break the tape. The interesting thing about these objects is that they had a mechanism to record and we could do it even erasing the cassette. Then, in my youth I had a discman that was given to me as a birthday present, but it was stolen after leaving a party. I remember that it was my way of being rebellious: locking myself in my room with my discman was the closest thing to not knowing about anything or anyone! Hahahaha. I carried my CD case up and down. Beautiful times that will never come back! Thank you for that time travel;)

Wow ! This is really the best throwback episode i will be reading reading from you. The walkman i once owned it and at that time one felt untop of the world to own such electronics device. The only issues with it is that it works with direct current (DC) powered battery or cells. But then the quality of that device to produce sound and quality music was top notch.

The Compact disc 💿 (CD) is another important device that up to today seem to be confusing to a lot of people on how it work, but the magic there is that a lens with an integrated circuit read all information embedded in it and converts it to sound. It was also the modern and most expensive electronics device for saving information or data.

Thanks for recurring back old memories, they were evergreen memories while we where growing up. @adsactly keep it up i personally love the memories.

Cool, happy you liked the article and had something to contribute that matched the context of this article. Thanks for your thoughts.

Innovation has progressed many occasions over and gadgets of the past generally have no place in the attention to more youthful ages. It is my objective in this arrangement to illuminate a few and take others back to their childhood with a touch of analysis on old devices!

Envision just having the capacity to compose a letter to a companion and sitting tight for a considerable length of time for it to be gotten and days more for it to be reacted to. Envision being restricted to unrecorded music alone and expecting to chase down performers to get your fix! Huge numbers of the advancements I will talk about in this article assumed a crucial job in motivating comparable gadgets we utilize today.

The broadcast and turntable both changed into the mystical gadgets they have been supplanted with. As a rule only a solitary gadget, a cell phone.

Obviously a few gadgets are bound to the past as mankind has discovered different approaches to achieve the undertakings they were initially intended for. Maybe creative ability is genuinely our most noteworthy quality as an animal categories. We are visionaries with a capacity periodically to show items and gadgets that before were bound to wild personalities.

An immediate drive turntable is one of the three primary phonograph plans at present being delivered. Alternate styles are the belt-drive turntable and the idler-wheel compose. Each name depends on the sort of coupling utilized between the platter of the turntable and the engine.

Coordinate drive turntables are as of now the most well known phonographs, because of their across the board use for turntablism in DJ culture.Panasonic's Technics arrangement were the principal coordinate drive turntables, and remain the most prevalent arrangement of turntables.

The facts demonstrate that there was never a more noteworthy risk to the interest for turntables than the presentation of the reduced circle and minimal plate players in the 1980s. I'm glad to report anyway that turntables and LPs figured out how to win out over the competition and be the famous phoenix ascending from the fiery remains.

While present day recording media has moved progressively toward convenience—regularly to the detriment of constancy—adroit music sweethearts have swung to the attempted and-genuine, dropping a needle onto a vinyl platter and getting a charge out of the unmistakable sound just a LP can give. Besides, recording specialists and club DJs have utilized turntable innovation in the administration of their craft but in a modernized and frequently advanced way..

The phonograph offered ascend to the turntable, an exceptional gadget fit for bringing the delight of music into family units over the world!

Most antiquarians concur that with the presentation of the advanced LP and the 7-inch 45-rpm circle, in 1948 and 1949, separately, the cutting edge turntable made its mark.

Offers of turn tables got a further lift when large scale manufacturing of stereo collections started in 1958. In the '60s and '70s, the moderateness of turntables—both remain solitary and comfort assortments—made the gadget an installation in many homes. Not by any means the development of tape tapes could overcome the brilliant turntable as it stayed as the focal point of the run of the mill sound framework.

Phonographs are still being used in DJ stalls, recording studios, and radio stations everywhere throughout the world.

Telecommunication necessitates that the strategy utilized for encoding the message be known to both sender and recipient. Numerous strategies are planned by the cutoff points of the flagging medium utilized. The utilization of smoke signals, reference points, reflected light flags, and banner semaphore signals are early models.

Through the blend of the Telegraph machine and Morse Code individuals presently had a moment approach to transmit messages starting with one side of their nation then onto the next! These days we simply send an instant message or an email however humor me maybe... Envision being withdrawn from your friends and family and all of a sudden an innovation tags along and puts them comfortable fingertips! No pigeons, no horseback conveyance however a text helped through the wires to another administrator, a pause and after that an answer all around the same time! Grand right?

This is unrelated to the article. Why the spam?

An electrical transmit was autonomously created and protected in the United States in 1837 by Samuel Morse. His right hand, Alfred Vail, built up the Morse code flagging letter set with Morse. The primary wire in the United States was sent by Morse on 11 January 1838, crosswise over two miles (3 km) of wire at Speedwell Ironworks close Morristown, New Jersey, despite the fact that it was just later, in 1844, that he sent the message "WHAT HATH GOD WROUGHT" from the Capitol in Washington to the old Mt. Clare Depot in Baltimore.

From that point on, business telecommunication took off in America with lines connecting all the real metropolitan focuses on the East Coast inside the following decade. The overland broadcast associated the west shore of the mainland toward the east drift by 24 October 1861, finishing the Pony Express.

This seems like copy / paste to me... What are you doing?
