Ancient history misteries: Imhotep, the man who invented pyramids

in #history6 years ago (edited)

One of the greatest geniuses of humanity left proof of his existence, despite being able to hide his demise.

Maybe you've heard about the knowledge required to build the pyramids was far beyond what egyptians could do at those times. It's true, this astonishing architectural feat was far beyond their skills, One of the Seven Wonders of the World would never have been built if not for Imhotep, around 4700 years ago.

After becoming close to the pharao of his days, he went from pleb to deitified vizier/chanceller and high priest of the sun god Ra. But that's not surprising, since he was the first man proficient in arquitecture, engineering and medicine. Any of these was already rare enough outside government officials, so you can imagine how remarkable it is when one of the commons has all of these three sciences under his skillset.

His inventions don't end there: he managed to hide where he would have died. He chose a secret location for the tomb he built himself where his body would forever rest unfound. Which was very successful: we have yet to find it. However, we can confirm his existence, because we observed his name is inscribed at one of Djoser's statues base.

This charade inspires many conspiracy and alien theories. In fact, how could one human be so ahead of his time, being able to command such a colossal entrepreneurship without previous experience of this size? Meddling with surrealism, maybe his tomb was actually a portal back to his home.

Oh, he's also the villain of The Mummy Returns, but under a completely different backstory.

Interesting... I probably need to read more about Imhotep - as you mentioned, I only know him from The Mummy Returns... 😂

You won't find much though, 2700 bc is no joke! Good movie though.

I've always thought of it how the Egyptian could have perfectly done such a thing as the gGreat Pyramid, everyone knows it was far ahead of there time, but no one knows who.
Still we may later found out it was more than djoser after all.

Imhotep was the sole responsible. Only thanks to him they could do it.

I've been to Egypt and great to hear this history ;)

Did you get to see the pyramids up close?

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

Which was very succesful: we have yet to find it.
It should be successful instead of succesful.
