Moonshine Over St Marys Basilica

St Marys Basilica, Krakow, Poland

Market Square, Krakow is a wonderful place for architectural night shots as shown by these photographs of St Mary's Basilica. I took them on my first trip there.

St Mary's was built in the 14th century and is a good example of Polish gothic architecture. Every hour, a trumpet signal is played from the top of the taller of these two towers to commemorate a 13th century trumpeter who was shot in the throat while sounding the alarm before the Mongols attacked the city.

It's a fun thing to witness if you get your timing right. And, even if you don't, there are lots of other things to look at while you're waiting, assuming you go there in the daytime of course! 😁

There are plenty of other interesting buildings to see and cafes to hang out in as the basilica is located in the main square, one of the largest medieval town squares in Europe.

You can even do a spot of shopping in the Cloth Hall that dominates the centre of the square.
