"Archimedes and an invention we use today"

Today i 'll post about one of the greatest inventors of all times :

He was born around 287 BC in the city (and port) of Syracuse in Sicily and died from a Roman soldier when the city was conquered in 212 BC . He was son of astronomer Fedeas .
Archimedes was an ancient Hellene(Greek) mathematician, engineer, physicist, inventor and astronomer. Besides the fact we don't know much about his life, he is considered one of the leading scientists in classical antiquity.

Let's see one of his inventions that we use in our age too.

The story about how the idea of the famous Archimedes screw came to his mind says, that King Hieron the 2nd(Syracuse), ordered Archimedes to design a huge ship with the namme Syracusia, which could be used for leisure travel, for transportation of supplies and as a warship too. This ship could carry up to 600 persons , had gardens, a gym(-γυμ-ναστήριο) and a temple of Afrodite(Godess of love-so leisure and love goes together). Having as fact that a ship of this size would drain a significant amount of water through the hull, Archimedes screw is believed to have been developed in order to remove the water. This mechanism was consisted from a rotating screw blade put inside a cylinder .It was handled by hand and could be also used to carry water from low levels to upper ones in order to feed irrigation channels.
This invention as you have seen already in the video is still in use in many ways like to pump liquid and solid grains, such as coal and wheat.
