Old heroes in a new color

In March 1942 in the village of Vishnyaki, located 14 km from Moscow, the Central Women's School of Sniper Training was established. Women aged 18-26 who had at least seven years of education were recruited to the school. The school's director was Nora P. Chegodaeva, a graduate of the famous Frunze Military Academy, who fought as a communist volunteer in the civil war in Spain. By the end of the war, the school had graduated from 1885 snipers and instructors.

Laid out in 1900, launched in October 1902, completed in 1905, captured by the White forces in the Russian Civil War and interned in Bizerta in 1920 as part of the Wrangel fleet, sold for scrap metal in 1933.

Mata Hari

Soviet sniper during the Second World War, who was credited with fifty-nine confirmed murders, including twelve soldiers during the Battle of Vilnius. Shanina volunteered for military service after the death of her brother in 1941 and chose to be a rifleman on the front line.
